It's about time Altlus ported SMT V to other consoles, although it's also appreciated that Vengeance will also arrive on the Switch. It's kind of Persona 5 Royal situation, but SMT V will at least get released on other consoles at the sime time, not later.
I find it funny that some people were thought SMT V Vengeance would not be arriving on the regular Switch, and that Atlus would later port it to Nintendo's new console, although I have to admit that the game is struggling to run on the Switch's hardware, perhaps that's a reason why Atlus didn't bother to make a Persona 3 Reload version for the Switch.
I just hope that the game does well with this new version, the original version did pretty well for an exclusive third-party RPG for the Switch, don't know if Nintendo players would be so happy to buy just an upgrade, I think P5 Royal on the PS4 should be used as a comparison but I don't know how much it sold compared to the original P5. On the other hand, it seems that Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance will be released the same day as the DLC for Elden Ring arrives (and a rumored Premium Edition as well), so I don't know if that could affect its potential sales on PS5, Xbox and PC, I just hope the games does well because it seems Atlus has struggled a bit with all of their non-Persona games, like Soul Hackers 2 for example. As I said, SMT V did well on Nintendo, all things considered, despite being much more niche compared to P5

This right here is why I always wait on Atlus RPG’s. I know a more complete version is coming.

I’ll say. I’ve been waiting for this every since they mentioned in that data leak there was a PC version was potentially coming. Here’s hoping they fix the frame rate problems that were on the Switch.

How’d you enjoy the complete versions (including all DLC) of SMT4, Apocalypse, & Strange Journey?

Wouldn't Apocalypse be the SMT:IV second version, technically?
I'm still not sure if this will have the base game of 5 in it or it will be an entirely new thing though.

From a Siliconera article, apparently this will be the base game with most (but not all) DLC (only the major ones), along with some extra additions that include a new route and some extra demons. Some QoL changes added too.
The weird thing IMO is how they seem to have changed the promo material into something more character-based? I wonder if they made changes to the main script too.

Yes but it was more to the point that both games had DLC that if you didn’t buy when they were still available on the eShop that content was lost to the ether. So those games are effectively incomplete.

I would think this game is essentially like Strange Journey Redux or Devil Survivor Overclocked where they’re fundamentally the same games but with new content added on top

You'll have a choice at the beginning of the game to follow the "Canon of Creation," which is the original SMT V campaign with no story changes, or the "Canon of Vengeance," which is broadly the same story but with "significant changes in the middle and later stages." I really hope this becomes the standard with Atlus re-releases.

Releasing a game then releasing a more improved version of the same game later on meaning players will likely be double dipping is the standard for their releases.
Especially anything involving the Shin Megami Tensei stuff the last decade and a half.

Guess this is about becoming standard for Atlus games. Always wait for the updated re-release!

I figured what I meant was clear from the rest of my post, but I guess I need to clarify: the part I hope becomes standard is having the option for the unaltered story in the same package.

Yeaaah, I probably should've waited to get SMTV, but SMTIV didn't get an updated rerelease so eh.
Even though I haven't played V yet, I'm leaning towards not double-dipping this time. I haven't enjoyed the extra storylines in past rereleases (hi, Persona 3 FES!), if I even do them, and the other additions are merely nice-to-haves.

I already had the 3DS version and wasn’t really expecting it to get an updated though. Even if those graphics were ugly as the archangels, the partner AI sucked (which they fixed in apocalypse), and the other routes ended prematurely compared to the neutral.

I don’t know why you would need to do that since in many cases the improved story is better than the original. In an ideal world they’d get the game right on the first try thereby not needing to do an improved version 3-5 years later that adds additional stuff that could’ve and should’ve been in the original release.

Very debatable. I find the original Persona 5 has a much tighter story overall than Royal despite all the added content in that version. Everyone relapsing their entire character arc in the added semester being one of my biggest problems with the way Royal handles things.
