I wish good luck on the surgery. With that said... the 4 week at minimum hiatus is making the Toei staff sweat... even further.

A hiatus for the Anime would be great, the reason I stopped watching was because they were adapting a single chapter into one episode, but I won't hold out hope for that.

Yeah, Honestly i would rather they take a couple of years off period and allow the manga to be more forward and than pace the series a bit better. Take for example the modern shounen title approach, have a cour or two adapting an arc, give a bit of a wait room period and than comeback.
Cause the pace of the series has really suffered after the water 7 arc with countless filler scenes, extended and slowed paced sequences that some of the episode literally only adapt half a chapter.
It needs leg room and more importantly, to give oda a bit more leg room and time to finish the chapters he aint as young as he used to be you know.

I guess that means we can expect a massive cliffhanger in the next chapter.

If his surgery is like the one the one I had in April then it will probably extend 1 or 2 weeks more.
Takes 2 weeks to be able to see in rooms with strong light, like a studio, and more than 2 more weeks for the eyesight to be stabilized. If unlucky it may take 2-3 months for his eyesight to stabilize and obviously you can order new glasses every day.
Hope he has a fast recovery because it is really a pain in the a$$. One of the easiest surgeries but the recovery is annoying because you cant do anything by yourself for at least a week.
First week you have to be taking eyedrops every half hour. Even now I am still using them every 2 hours.

I imagine this is gonna be good visualization for him in preparation for when Luffy fights Blackbeard and either BB uses black smoke or darkness dimension to cut off Luffy's vision(his only defense against physical fighters)

I prefer filler arcs compared to decompressed storylines like the old G8 Arc. But the anime stopped doing those outside a few tie-ins to the movies like the Uta episodes last year.

Wishing Oda a safe surgery and a restful break! Hopefully the surgery is both successful and recharges his batteries.

How about a 3-month break? This ain´t no joke.
This might explain why the art became a bit less detailed during the last 3 years or so. The linework took a slight hit. I assumed burnout but this might be it.
