That's very impressive but I am not surprised. A new One Piece movie is always a monumental event.

Not to mention One Piece is more popular than it’s ever been before. We’ve come a long way since the dub-only blu-ray quality theatrical release of Film Gold. Now One Piece movies get the REAL worldwide release treatment!

I can't wait to watch it but I'm not sure how popular One Piece is in the west though. I think Dragonball is still more popular in North America and Latin America. I do prefer One Piece though.

Surprisingly, the movie will release in my country on September 8. That's incredibly fast!

As a frame of reference for eveyone saying they're not suprised, this is the biggest opening for a One Piece movie...ever.
The previous highest debut within a 2 day time-span was Film Z at 1.37 billion yen.

Looking at Japan's spiking COVID cases, not the best time to go to the theatre I'd think.

Didn't seem to stop them from watching Demon Slayer in Q4 of 2020. The whole virus thing was at its wildest, yet the movie broke their all-time box office record.

I think at this point people are perfectly fine with it. Theaters are open here too. I went to go see Top Gun: Maverick and it was fairly packed. I think most people have just stopped caring.

When Demon Slayer movie was released they were having less than 1,000 cases a day. Now they're having more than 200,000 cases a day. Slightly different scenario I'd say.
