This is one of my all-time favourite anime, and I'm desperately hoping someone licenses this release for the UK soon. Otherwise I'm going to have to buy a multi-region blu-ray player and import the US disc. Your review has only added to my desperation!

This Blu-Ray release out did their Memories release which is saying something. To put the amount of extras this Perfect Disc has, I would say be akin to all the extra features the Lord the Rings films have since it's release. This was my Blu-Ray of the Year of any genre last year (late December). What kind of madness it will be if Discotek throws "everything and the kitchen sink" as they say on this disc for Gunbuster.
One last thing.Hope your select/enter button on your Blu-Ray/Harmony remote is big and functional because there is a lot pressing to do.

Definitely want to pick this up at some point, though with Discotek moving on to the sequel films, I might wait to see if they put out a boxset of the whole set or for a steelbook since that seems to be a trend they're on.

As much as I love the first two A-ko films, I'd rather forget about the latter two. in particular is thanks to the writers straightwashing A-Ko and B-Ko so they could fight over some hearthrob with all the personality of a plank of wood and the downgrade in animation and action set pieces

I wouldn't count on a box set considering they're still missing a A-Ko entry.

Wow, the fact that they managed to find the 35mm print is a miracle on the level of the upcoming remaster of the 1996 computer game The Pandora Directive where, also against all odds, someone managed to find all of the original FMV footage tapes. I adore it when this sort of thing happens.

Uncivil wars? That could change in the future, but they could still just do a set with 1-4. However, a steelbook is more likely I'll admit.

Good timing: my backordered A-Ko blu ray showed up yesterday.
Won't have time to watch it for a while but props to Discotek for the reversable case label card. The original box art is what I remember and even the box art looks amazing.

Sounds like I missed the release of Memories on BD, a great one. Noted for next batch of Blu Rays. Sounds like I can go ahead and pick up this release of A-KO and finally retire my LDs of it. Maybe. I do love my LDs.
I wonder what Woodhead was doing with those archived masters? Did he buy them from Image/US Manga?

Woodhead didn't physically have the masters. I was paraphrasing but recommend reading the editorial I linked for more detail.

They also have the story on the Disc itself.

I've never watched and have no personal attachment to A-ko, but I've been considering getting the release solely because of how top notch it seems. It's the same reason I got their release of Memories (which I STILL haven't watched somehow).

With as long as he has been in the business (Longer than anyone alive I believe) I would not be surprised he knows where all the bodies (At least the film) is buried. Guess I need to buy the release to get the full story, darn.
BTW, I am a big fan of Robert Woodhead and have a huge amount of AnimEigo releases, old and new. I firmly believe anime in the US today was shaped by his hand.

Minor correction:
Quote: | The crybaby C-ko immediately catches the attention of the wealthy queen bee and part-time inventor B-ko who makes it her mission to defeat A-ko and claim B-ko for herself. |
That second "B-ko" should be "C-ko".
I've been wanting to buy this Blu-Ray just for the new film transfer but I'll probably have to import it from the USA since Amazon Canada has it at $80 Canadian (which is around twice what I'd pay from some of the American anime online shops including shipping to Canada even taking into account the exchange rate). I'll still keep the 2002 DVD edition even with the super-saturated remaster since it came with the soundtrack CD (plus the Blu-Ray won't play on either of my laptops).

It's no big secret. To make a long story short, he found it while looking for materials for the upcoming Madox release.
