Based on this, I'm glad it got better, but I'm sad that it still wasn't "good."

It sounded like this would've been better off as a "cute girls doing a bunch of sporty things" anime (which could definitely work) but that's not what this show was meant to be.

Another thing is if the anime wanted to get the attention of Hockey fans, maybe they shouldn't start the first episode with team Canada losing to team Japan. I'd also like to point out if Yu missed the game winning shot, that doesn't mean they would have lost. It would just mean the game would go into overtime.

Anyways, the show was fine, even not bad in some episodes. I don't watch a whole lot of sports anime (Mostly because Ice Hockey is the only sport I watch) but hey, I'd still recommend giving it a watch. Because, we can all agree it's the best Ice Hockey anime out there.

This really read like the show was designed by committee.

Exec1: "What's big at the moment (outside Isekai as we already have 15 of those in production)?"
Exec2: "Idol, sports show and slice of life"
Exec3: "Alright, make an anime about all three, but spend the absolute minimum amount of money. The sports doesn't matter, pick whatever hasn't been done lately to make it seem fresh."

I feel like this show would have had more eyes on it if it came out in the barren winter season, rather than in the always-overcrowded fall. If nothing else, the concept was novel and the animation largely held together, particularly in the game scenes.

Would I want a second season? Maybe, but the fact the final episode ends with a title card saying "Continue the story in the game!" gives me a pretty good idea of the low regard in which the production committee holds the "story" of Pride of Orange. Probably the best you could hope for would be to build out the girls on the other teams like Kushiro Snow White, and do whip-around coverage of the different teams, the way BanG Dream does with its various bands.

(And what is this show anyways, if not BanG Dream on skates? The Idol Days podcast even considered Pride of Orange sufficiently idol-adjacent to do an episode on it.)

Yup, this ex post facto review pretty much agrees with what I recollect posting during PuraOre!'s run - a decent but not great show for those with SOL/CGDCT interests, that does not insult the game of hockey.

What do you know - actually watching a show gives a better evaluation than ranting and raving (as several YouTubers and others did) based on a trailer and preconceived notions.

Well,I'm glad to see a fair review of this show. This show did get some drubbing by some Canadian YouTubers and there were those who thought that it was unnecessarily maligned. I haven't seen the anime yet,so I can't say a thing about it. I hope they dub it soon. It'd be something interesting to see.

As someone who only gave this show a try because of the sports aspect, and not the "cute girls doing cute things" one, much less the tacked-on idol stuff, I was very disappointed with it. The fact that the ice hockey scenes were so well animated only added to my frustration, because they were too few and far between. It's the opposite of a show like Tamayomi, which was terribly animated but at least had a decent amount of baseball action.

It's hard not to know teamwork in hockey - no one player can "ball-hog" the puck, and only there in shifts of 60 seconds or less
