A retelling of... episode 15. Can't say I expected that lol, but hey, seems like a cool idea.

Bit of mystique about the original as the ‘lost’ episode of a classic series?

I’ve seen it, and didn’t think its animation quality was so bad as to deserve throwing it down the memory hole. Plus dealing with an enemy soldier gone AWOL and a Zeon vs Zeon mobile suit fight are two things it has that other episodes of 0079 don’t repeat.

The episode is the only one where the story actually lays out where all the locations of the series are in space. In no way has it ever been bad or skippable, but I guess Tomino's shame over it convinced everyone otherwise.

I assume Yas just really likes it. Also, it may well be an adaptation of the manga of the same name about Doan's whole life and not just that one episode.

More importantly, will the movie keep the "martial art MS"-aspect of Doan? Very Happy

Going to second this. Although I’m wondering if the LA film IS the adaptation of The Origin.

My initial response: WTF?

After reading: holy hell, Yas is directing? This is gonna be the best movie in the franchise.

Isn't it only "lost" outside of Japan? Despite being blocked by Tomino for international releases, I think Doan's Island is still included on the Japanese BD/DVD releases of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Tomino: This filler episode is terrible. It's so bad that I don't want foreigners to even know it exists.

Sunrise: Okay, okay, but, and hear me out, what if it was two hours long and we charged admission to see it?

That's right, all releases in Japan still include it while it's not anywhere internationally (and not just in English either since it's also missing in other countries' releases like in Italy for example).

If this new version gets brought over, it would be nice if that episode was included as an extra but I won't hold my breath.
