I suppose it was only a matter of time before a La Dispute reference made it into one of these columns...
After the personal letdown that was Nijigasaki. it's wonderful to see Takahiko Kyōgoku return for a second season of this franchise. Few people have mastered both visual comedy & cg motion as well as he has. He really should be allowed make second seasons of other shows. *Wink wink, nudge nudge, series of rapid punches to the arm*

Ah, my favourite type of idol, the Idol Gremlin.

I have never listened to NMH but I believe this to be true.
I'm really enjoying Superstar! It's so much fun. The little jokes in the background are so great, it makes it really fun to watch. I'd like to watch it again without focusing on subs so I can catch all those extra things I missed.
Plus the face game is so strong in this one.

This has gotta be the best Love Live series since the original one, really-it has everything the first one did and then some.

I have to ask: Exactly *what* does "gremlin" mean in this context?

I prefer calling Kanon, Keke and Sumire as the three stooges of school idols rather than gremlins. They just continuing the legacy of the baka trio of Honoka, Rin and Nico from first Love Live.

Agreed with one reservation... It makes the same mistake that Sunshine did. The concert performances are music videos rather than occurring in-world. It's not as blatantly bad as Sunshine, but it jerks me out of immersion every single time.

My take is imagine an evil little goblin that likes to stir up pure chaos, but a bit cuter and not as threatening, so a gremlin. The general gremlin characters are usually sneaky, probably like attention, and likely try to maintain an innocent image while being pretty obvious in any manipulation. The character type is generally disruptive to everyone else, but likable because they know what they want.

I personally love the Nijigasaki anime series, as I feel it's not as cheesy and...skeevy as the first two seasons could be at times. But I decided to try Superstar out just for kicks, and even I'm surprised at how good it turned out to be. I really like Kanon as a lead character, the animation is sumptuous, the music is pretty good, if a little cheesy at times, and thankfully it doesn't have any boob grabbing so far (THANK GOD!). I do have one reservation though: Keke's voice is annoying AF. Her voice actress often sounds like she's trying too hard to push her voice to sound cutesy and high pitched, and comes off as phoning it in at times...which is weird because her voice is fine when she sings! Granted, it's not as bad as others I've heard (Looking at you, Hikaru from Star Twinkle Precure), and it's not so annoying that it puts me off the show entirely, so Keke does have that going for her.

For me not really that annoying as long as she will not overshadow Kanon with her antics. I bet that you're still not comfortable on a Chinese voice actress trying to blend with Japanese voice actresses. Yes most voice actress of this anime are just beginners so they need more time than anybody else.
I noticed that Love Live have a history where some deuteragonists characters are becoming more popular than the main protagonists for most fans. For example Nico and Maki are more popular than Honoka on Love Live, You and Yoshiko are more popular than Chika and Riko on Love Live Sunshine.
For me the real annoying is Kasumi. She almost taken over the whole season of Nijigasaki from poster girl Ayumu with her antics. She's kinda like Nico but much worst.
