These feel like pretty boring character designs. This is Final FANTASY. Why do their outfits seem so normal?

I bet you that like a lot of Japanaese non-live-action media, Japanese people will say they look Asian.

^^That simplicity is what I find appealing about them. They have a more traditional fantasy vibe that reminds me of FFT.

Japan is not a particularly diverse country, and they're not having the same conversations about representation in media that we're having in the U.S. It's not shocking.

Well, while they are pretty simple, I can't say that they are actually "generic" - actually, it's reverse, generic JRPG party characters designs are usually look extra flashy and over-complicated.
Also, that setting landscapes... They not really trying to cover that it's actually Ivalice, aren't they?

I hope this was just low quality bait. final fantasy is westernized enough as it is, the more "japanese" feel it has to it, the better it will be. the designs remind me of final tantasy tactics / final fantasy 12 / bravely default and I love it for that.

It really feels like they're trying to do what they tried to do in FF XII, only this time, do it right. Hopefully there won't be too much executive meddling during the production.

The artstyle reminds me of Vagrant Story, it's a departure from the modern/futuristic style of XIII, XV and VII Remake, but XIV is still very popular so I think there's some room for a medieval fantasy style FF game, though I wish they could make something more akin to the concept art of games like VI and IX but with modern graphics.

I'm glad they decided to make them look more like real people in medieval Europe and less like garishly design anime characters. Also did anyone else laugh when they heard the line "Joshua quails at the sight of a carrot on his dinner plate". Like come on kid, who get's scared by that?

So glad they decide to go back to straight up fantasy elements, instead of the recent ones which are just sci-fi,with fantasy elements.
