is there a reason why naruto is written in katakana rather then hiragana?i don't know japanese(but i'm attempting to learn,slowly),but it seems like saying na-ru-to would sound the same be it ナルト or なると, but i'm sure i'm totally wrong.
anyone know? Smile |

I think that's just a stylistic choice. Most of the Naruto characters have their first names written in katakana instead of hiragana or kanji. There are some exceptions like Konohamaru, who's name is in kanji, and Ino, who's name is in hiragana. Plus, I think that writing their names in katakana makes them stand out more.

There's also the naming system. Most of the names in Naruto are based on famous characters or food, so using katakana helps make it less confusing.

Katakana is often used for emphasis, the one that is taking place here, is to mark masculine style. It's rare for males to use hiragana to write their names or other connected words. |
