This visual novel have first place on vndb rating. So far as know AoT author is fan of this game. I wonder how good or how bad this adaptation will be.

This is the dream anime I've been waiting a decade for
But also if its anything less than 39 eps minimum, potentially longer, its gonna be horribly butchered and shit. Like just imagine them trying to pack it into two cours - the same amount of time UBW got (less unless it also gets multiple hour long eps) while having the source VN be over twice as long. Excited but also they could so easily screw it up with this one decision its scary |

Hajime Isayama (creator of AoT) was actually on the livestream to offer his congrats and thoughts about Muv-Luv. He’s always been very gracious about crediting it as an influence. Screenshot here: https://twitter.com/invalidname/status/1186586456602492929?s=21 |

Yeah, I also have been wanting this anime since forever, but I also dread it because it's not easy to do the adaptation ? will they skip extra and unlimited ? will they cover everything but be rushed AF ? will they leave it incomplete ? I will still support this , but ti's really difficult to pull this off unless they do 4 coeurs. |

A pathologically reverent adaptation of the Muv-Luv trilogy would spend two episodes on Extra’s hated lacrosse arc, and probably have 20-minute sequences in Unlimited/Alternative in which Yuuko just stares into the camera and infodumps. I may be a super-fan of this franchise, but I’d be perfectly happy to see talented creators rein in its excesses. Consider: the Clannad and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien visual novels have similar word counts, but the former anime is 49 episodes and the latter manages to says its piece in just 14. |

The Kiminozo adaptation only covered a single route, whereas Clannad covered 95% of the game's story. Do Muv-Luv fans only want the anime to cover a single route?

Unlimited and Alternative don’t branch to any meaningful degree, and most of Sumika and Meiya’s routes in Extra are actually a common route. The main reason for Muv-Luv’s length is infodumping and lore. And personally, I find that following every route in an anime adaptation is a flaw, not a benefit. I’d almost rather watch the Nagisa-focused Clannad movie than the all-over-the-map TV series. Pick the best route and just adapt that, bringing in material from other routes where you can (as Rumbling Hearts does). |

When they cry disagrees.
But judging by clannad, doing multiple routes is hard, as good as clanand is I was just explaining how the structure ruins the ending, and was thinkign aobut ways to watch the anime where the ending feels earned. My latest theory is to stop after episode 16 of after story, then watch the toei movie, but that is still far from perfect.
Well, my favorite version of when they cry is the manga, so I kind of agree, but my "biggest fear" is having them just skip extra and unlimited and at worse, make an abridged version of alternative, please buy the novel instead. Funny thinig that this happens ina muvluv topic, as knights of magic ahs a muvluv homage arc and that novel was adapted in a super rushed fashion. |

I'm in the pessimistic camp, that is I think there is a very small chance that this can truly work. It's true that the important parts of the story are linear, and that there is no clear "impossible to adapt to a visual format" elements like in Ever 17, but those were true also for e.g. Umineko, of which the anime adaptation didn't work.
One reason for my pessimism is that it seems to me that anime adaptations of visual novels are often made with scarce resources, which can be especially disappointing in the case of Muv-Luv Alternative, because the story contains large scale army battles. |

I am shocked there are Muv-Luv fans here of all places. It's always been a fairly vile and politically questionable piece of work.
In any case: This isn't doable. Personal grievances aside, Extra and Unlimited being adapted to compliment a competent attempt at adapting Alternative will not bode well with today's audiences. The manpower and resources will naturally not be there for something so low stakes. |

It's one of the most beloved Visual Novels of all time, strange would be finding no fans here. |

In the realm of eroge/VNs, sure. Not to the vastly broader audience of new wave anime fans. And the former is much more open or neutral to pornographic or politically incorrect aspects of storytelling that would never find its way to an adaptation without consideration. Namely, *that* scene near at the end of MLA. How would they deal with that in an anime? |

I'm personally not a fan of this. I love Muv Luv as a whole but visual novels have a terrible track record of being adapted faithfully.

My feeling is, I don’t care if the adaptation is faithful, I just care whether it’s good. Particularly with Muv-Luv, which is a whopping 15 years removed from its source material, the goal may not be “let’s make the existing fans happy”, but rather “let’s develop some new fans”. One cause for worry: recent VN adaptations have been a real bust. Island and Yu-No disappeared without making much of an impact, and even Steins;Gate 0 was underwhelming. |

Being this is arguably the greatest VN ever produced, this is amazing news. Unfortunately, I have no idea how they will be able to condense this trilogy into a 12-26 anime adaptation. I really can't see this being possible with just one season. Clannad and When They Cry are probably the best examples of a VN-to-anime adaptation done right.
If they just stick to the Sumika route and cut out the filler, perhaps they could get it done. The hype for this anime is going to be off the charts. I wonder what studio is going to produce it. |
