Personally, I'm the kind of person that is "easily amused" if you will, and same with anime. Personally, I try to finish as many series and movies as possible, its almost like a mission instead of entertainment, thats how a lot of things are for me, so it has become a habit. but when I start a series I typically finish it, there are a few series I just kind of stopped due to various reasons, but I have finished at least 90% of the series.
I never skip episodes though, except naruto fillers, I feel like I'm cheating the show if I skip the middle episodes, I either watch the entire thing or dont watch any. so I thought it would be interesting to see how every here is with watching animes.

For new series I'm checking out I give them all the 3-5 episode rule, or in the case of DVDs the 1 disc rule, and if they don't entertain me by then I drop them. If I liked it I'd proceed to watch every single episode because I'm a completist by nature and like to see all of something not to mention finishing what I start.
If the show in question is something I've seen already, I'll probabally skip an episode here and there if I didn't like it. Otherwise it would be rewatched fully. I'm also quite fond of marithons when I have a day off and nothing else to do.

My habit is I watch too much lol. For new shows I always watch the whole first dvd. I usually netflix it so I don't have to spend 20-30 bucks. If I like it I check out the rest of the series. If I REALLY like it then I go and buy it. My funds are limited with a new car so I gotta be more selective now. I always finish a series once I commit to it. That's one habit I have. It does not matter how bad it is I will see it through to the end once I commit to it. I may go out later and buy several copies just to burn them in gasoline and spare the world the horror of that show but I'll watch it first heh. I also have a bad habit of watching too many shows at once. I get in the mood for action so I pick one up. Then maybe some fantasy, or comedy, or drama. Next thing I know I got 5-8 series going at once that I feel compelled to finish each and every one. This makes for little time for other things so time management is a wonderful idea.

I think the bad thing about my anime/manga habits is I put so much money into buying the stuff, and then I never get around to watching or reading it. So it just sits wrapped up or in a box for maybe months on end. If it's very interesting though, it is a habit of mine to watch as much of it as I can before I fall asleep. Or before my parents tell me to do something.

Thats the same with me. I see another sereis that look cool and get it. As of now im trying to complete all the rest of all my other short series before I buy more new seires. Im working on completing DNAngel then after that I'll finish Ai Yori Aoshi (I bought Ai Yori Ao shi dvd 1 2 years ago lol),Boys be after that, then I'll need to save up some extra money to complete the Inuyasha box sets. Some series though I have some trouble trouble wanting to buy the dvds. For example I have a bad habit of getting dvd1 of an anime I saw on tv then having trouble completing it i.e Paranoia Agent, and Evangelion since I have already seen them. With shows like Bleach and Naruto though I have no trouble buying those dvds when they come out for no reason lol.
Another bad habit I have is that I will not watch an anime unless I read the manga first (except if the manga isn't out in english yet). I do that because then if I watch the anime first I will more likly pick out a different manga that I haven't read since I don't know what happens, plus I like to read it first to imagine the action and voices in my head then see it in action in the anime. My third habit is i always watch them english first, then japanese, then english for the rest of the time pretty much. Some people think Im wierd but I don't watch tv to read the bottom of the screen, I watch tv to "watch". So I usually watch them in Japanese to see it and compare and watching then in Japanese has helped me learn more Japanese ^^v. My final habit that I can think of is I usally like to eat when watching anime or at least drink something.

I wouldn't call that a bad habit, I think all the reasons you listed are pretty reasonable as to why you do this.
This past year as I got involved in this forum, and learned more ways of finding anime, I got into that habit that some of you mentioned of watching too many series at the same time. I wanted to try a lot of them so I sometimes had 20 or so series that I would watch at least one episode of each week. I don't really like doing that because I think it sort of ruins the rhythm of some of the shows when I break into something completely different in between episodes.
So I made it a goal for the new year to firstly clean out my "seen some" anime as much as possible; I am an Irresponsible Captain Tylor and a Twelve Kingdoms box set away from having all the anime I need for this, of course ongoing series are exempt. And secondly to only watch multiple anime for those ongoing series. Everything else I'll wait until I have the entire series together to watch them one series at a time, as is my preferred habit.

It depends how long a show is. I only buy complete collections or download a complete show before watching. I'm good at finding anime shows I like, so I've never ended up with a terrible anime show. If it's 13 episodes I'll easily go through it with little to no breaks (except bathroom). Unless the show isn't very enticing then I might watch half or so one day and the rest the next day, but that is very rare. If it's 26 episodes then I'll watch it in two days. I could watch it in one but haven't gotten the oppurtunity. Mainly because I'm watching at night and start to get tired, and shows aren't as good when you're tired. Although if the show isn't very enticing it could take longer too.
I find marathoning to be the best way to watch anime. Like a five to ten hour movie. Once I get into a good show it's hard to stop. And I do make it a priority to finish a show. If it's somewhat interesting I'll make sure I'll watch it. I can't leave a show unfinished. Plus I love being addicted to anime. Occasionally I'll get into a phase where I crave anime and need to finish as many shows as possible. Plus I love seeing my list of completed shows grow on ANN.

Wow great answers... but I dont see how you can read the mangas then watch animes... I started watching death note and thought it was amazing, and I couldnt get enough of it, then I started reading the mangas, til about chapt 60 and stopped, and now I dont watch the animes either because I know what happened. what a sad sad ending to one of the best shows of the year, ruined by me reading the mangas. I guess partly because the whole point of the show is the surprise and suspense, not so much the action. I think it'll be different when Naruto comes back up.
and I also like to eat while watching anime... I go through a bag of popcorn each time I watch anime, or if its after school I just munch on snacks. I dont really know about marathons though. I used to be into marathons with 10 episodes of naruto each night when I first started but I hardly call that a marathon. I have done a 40 episode of FMA marathon, but thats about it.
just reading is pretty motivating, I think I'm gonna finally sit down and have a marathon today with my... 14 episodes left of FMP and 14 episodes of Honey Clover. Thanks...

My biggest habit (read: Problem) is spending too much time buying anime, and not enough watching the anime I've bought. I don't know how much I need to watch right now (I've afraid to count!!) but I'm sure it''s in the 40-50 disc range. This isn't including the couple dozen DVD on backorder at Rightstuf.
Part of my problem is I watch anime very, VERY slowly- I can only watch about 2 hours in a sitting, which means I usually only watch 1 or 2 discs a day, if that. I don't make any special point to finish one series before starting another- but when I do hit that last volume, I am careful to watch it on a day off, so I can give it my full attention.
I also make it a point to buy the enitre series for anime I start (usually.) I didn't used to- back when I started getting into anime, I'd only buy volume 1 and then move on... I guess that was my way to learn about as many shows as I could. I've since bought the rest of all those old shows. I do have just a couple that are, and will remain, incomplete- long-run shows that I bought vol. 1 of way back when, and have decided not to bother tracking down the rest since its turned out my boyfriend already owns them. (This group consists of Rurouni Kenshin, Ronin Warriors, and Trigun. Although now that the remix is out, I may buy up Trigun after all. ) Any other shows I pick up and decide not to finish, I usually give the DVDs away after awhile.
Lastly, I LOVE artboxes. If I pick something up cheap, like it, and find out there's a single volume+artbox set, I will rebuy it for the box!

There's 2 big things you're forgetting SmashRackets. The first is that most times the manga is longer and more in depth than the anime. It provides the watcher with a more in depth look at the show and the characters. There's usually tons of stuff left out of the show that is in the manga and it helps fill the gaps and answer questions you might otherwise have. The second big point is that often the manga and series are completely different. You want an example try the Chrono Crusade anime/manga. They both ended VERY differently from each other. So I'd definitely give the manga and anime both a chance for those series you really like. You may be pleasantly surprised with some of the stuff each form leaves out that the other has in it.

Let's see, I like watching one series at a time and I have a rule for watching consecutive episodes to not be more than three at a time; I made this rule after the terrible headache and pain in my eyes that I suffered from for the rest of the day after racing through the episodes of the second half of Twelve Kingdoms for six consecutive hours x_x
If I find myself not enjoying an anime, I immediately quit it no matter how popular it was; animes are mainly a mean of entertainment for me and I've got other hobbies than watching anime, so why waste my precious free time in something that doesn't provide me with entertainment?

I feel for you, I likewise have the same problem. I make decent living but I have no time (School/Work) to watch anime. What really killing my viewing time is the new Zelda game for Wii (And yes it is everything you expect it to be and more), so I lately I have been playing that when I have the chance.
Like other have noted above me, when I watch something fansubbed I normally give things 3-4 episodes before I drop them. If I buy a dvd I normally try to watch the entire series since I hate having lots of anime in my seen some list.
When I am actually viewing anime I normally watch an entire dvd or a few episodes since it easier for me, but there are a few series that I try to watch as the new episodes are released; such as Black lagoon and Death Note.

I find myself doing the same thing. Although if I don't like the voices in the dub I'll watch it in subtitles instead, but that rarely happens. I will usually watch one or two shows in english then move on to another series then when I am finished with the next series go back to viewing the previous shows in japanese. Another habit I have is watching between one or three discs a day over a period of about four days then not watch any for about a week.

I have the same problem, espically when Rightstuf has a sale. Those mega-bundles they offer in their weekly specials don't help either.

Depending on how many episodes a series has, I tend to watch an entire series between 1-4 days. 12-13 part series will generally get watched in one sitting at the weekend, though if the series is as dull as dishwater then it'll take longer (e.g., the 12 episode Legend of Himiko series took over two weeks for me to watch because it was very, very uninspiring).
If the like the OP & ED themes to a series then I won't skip through it to get to the next episode; if I hate the music, then the fast forward button gets used a lot.

Heh, I got a headache the first time I tried to watch the entirety of Vision of Escaflowne in one sitting.
