At last, a real Yu-gi-oh battle in which someone actually ends up being banished to the shadow realm. |

Considering the original show's protagonist's power was to basically cheat at card games, this is only too perfect.

That what happens when you cheat and you're neither rich or sporting green hair. |

Did some cleanup. This is not a "let's bash on Konami" thread.

There needs to be similar inspection on the Pokémon TCG competitions. Part of the reason I left the tournament scene for that was because it got incredibly corrupt, such as competitors getting their friends hired as judges and people practicing a type of fake shuffling that keeps all of their cards in the same order.
I mean, at our Pokémon League location many years back, there was this kid, around 9 or 10 years old at that time, who already knew how to do that shuffling. In other words, even the 10-and-under division had competitors like that (though their friends obviously can't be judges...though their parents could). |

Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series is not canon. Do not use it as a substitute for the original. Yugi had no "power to cheat" any more than Naruto or Luffy do. |

Where was Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series ever mentioned? I mean, that was a thought I had watching the show and reading the manga as well, completely independently of them. But I knew it was not to be taken seriously. And I doubt Malsang did either. It's just a joke. |

It's a common misconception that the Millenium Puzzle lets Yugi draw whatever card he wants and Yugi is called a cheater, which is completely untrue. I'm not sure where it originated, but considering people were making TAS quotes in the thread already I have to think TAS is responsible in some way since people like to base their views on a series through an abridged series. |

Welp, we found the guy who takes his Yugioh seriously. Aside from the 'heart of the cards' (or 'shining draw' or 'destiny draw' if you get really bugged by my filthy western translation) where several protagonists (Yami included) throughout the series are specifically mentioned to be able to pull whatever the hell card they need to the top of the deck, Yami Yugi has been -- especially throughout Season 1 -- been known to make up card logic on the fly that does not only not work in the actual game but also badly explained in its own in-world logic. As an extra note, all of the millenium item users are technically cheating. Getting external help (in the case of Atem's spirit with the puzzle) or just plain reading the future to know your opponent's cards (in the case of Ishizu) to name a few are all illegal plays and constitute as cheating. |

Competitors should shuffle their opponents' cards. Or a 3rd-party like your next-chair neighbor to the left in 1 round, then to the right the next round, then left again, and so on.

That sort of thing is a very hard problem to solve, and it has been that way for hundreds of years. A truly skilled card cheat is virtually impossible to detect, even for pros. For example, look up Richard Turner and see what that man can do with a pack of cards....despite being blind. He demonstrates cheats with normal playing cards but the same skills translate to any card game. e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwFIJyWKs1k |

Hey when your manga which originally dealt with playing games of chance with your life being on the line gets turned into a card battle manga you're going to have to throw shit in when you don't have completely established rules.....or pull stuff out of your ass when you write the characters into a corner.
The only example I can think of in Yugi's case where you can charitably say he cheated was during the Pegasus duel where he and Atem kept swiching places which of course was no worse than what Pegasus had been doing throughout that arc and that duel by reading people's hands. Which was bad enough to where he screwed over Bandit Keith and Kaiba then latter of whom lost his soul. |
