Great news! I prefer Railgun over Index.

It's quite obvious it will be next year. It would be nice if they, by now, had a specific season the series is supposed to come out in.

Actually I am pretty worried on this announcement, if you pay close attention to Index season 3, you will see many production issues that likely resulted from lack of time and good schedule management, 2019 sounds a bit too soon for a 2-cour season, if you ask me and many Chinese and Japanese fans think this way as well.
JC is confirmed to be responsible for 12+ productions next year and we are not even 2019 yet, I sincerely hope they can pull it off.

My running theory is that they ordered a whole year of episodes for the "A Certain" franchise.
After Index III finishes airing, they'll likely air "A Certain Scientific Accelerator" in the Spring, and then for the Summer they can do the Railgun Daihasei Festival arc.
Given the timing of the announcements, this is what seems most likely to me, though I could be wrong.
Having these seasons running alongside the 50-ep SAO Alicization season means that the both of them as Dengeki Bunko's top titles can work to promote them together.

As long as there is more Mikoto and less Kuroko then I'm okay with this.

I just hope it's both paced better and given more care than Index 3 has to this point. The Railgun series is awesome and would just like to enjoy what comes next.

That is odd coming from a Chikane/Himeko yuri fan. Kuroko is one of the craziest lesbians in anime history.

A whole year of To Aru. Pretty crazy deluge after that loooooong drought. As long as they keep the ball rolling on Index and announce a NT adaptation then it's all great.
And Shirai is actually straight, no matter how much the anime flanderizes her.

I'm optimistic about it only because S2 was absolutely fantastic, so as long as the same team works on it I think we'll be okay. If only the main story could get that kind of love.
