I didn't know he was Dio's voice actor in the OVA, I only heard a few clips and thought he was good. R.I.P thank you for your hard works.

The two adaptations of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3 feel like they emphasize different aspects of the story - the TV show, fitting in with its Parts 1 & 2, is the more comic booky version. The OVA plays up the horror aspect of it, which works quite well.
To that end, Nobuo Tanaka's Dio is creepy, irresistible, inscrutable - when he talks initially, something in your head just goes "Get away from this man NOW". Unforgettable performance. RIP. |

That beautiful lisp, threatening demeanor of OVA DIO can't be topped. He is among my favorite DIO voice actors alongside Isshin Chiba and Norio Wakamoto.

Personally, I thought he sounded far too old to play Dio and not nearly hammy enough but that a problem that extends to pretty much of all the original OVA JoJo cast. But even though I feel Takehito Koyasu blows him far away in performance, Tanaka still manged to capture the calm, creepy "master of all he surveys" aspect of JoJo's most iconic villain well. May he rest in peace.

Man we just keep losing so many great talents. Nobuo Tanaka's performance as the dude in my avatar was awesome. It is darker than Takehito Koyasu's interpretation as the tone of the OVA is a bit darker than the manga. But to me it really was spot on and I remember thinking "wow this guy is great" when I saw it.
