It’s a shame Funi is dubbing this instead of something better/more popular like Megalobox. Same thing happened last season with Place Further than the Universe.

I've always wondered how they choose which shows to simuldub. I mean hit franchises like Fairy Tail, AoT, DxD, Overlord, MHA, Card Captors, and to a lesser extent Black Clover are a given. Even shows with good fanfare behind them like Golden Kamuy have a good chance of being picked up.

But how do they decide some of the lesser known stuff like Dances with Dragons, Hinamatsuri, Dagashi Kashi, etc.? Do they sit and talk about this with Crunchy or do they just look at a list of seasonal releases on a dart board and decided that way?

There should really be an Answerman on this.

I'm just guessing here but it probably has a lot to do with the genre.

I really really wanted a simuldub of megalobox but they might not have wanted to risk it since In a way it's a sports anime. Historically they haven't done to well. There's always an exception like haiku for example but I don't think All Out did them many favors. Whereas fantasy action shows usually do pretty well for Funimation hence doing dances with dragons

Honestly it's still early in the Funimation/crunchyroll relationship so I'm still hoping to see a lot of these shows that didn't get a simuldub will still get a home video release with a dub. (Here's looking at you aho girl and cleanliness boy Aoyama kun.)

Going from what they said when the partnership first formed, yes they do have that discussion, and it probably happens around the same time as deciding if they want to pursue a license at all.

I would assume sequels get priority since they have prior performance as a guide. After that things like genre, creative staff, series length, and maybe to some extent actor availability if it is a sequel would have to be considered.
