I've really been enjoying the show. The mix of supernatural power and suspense reminds me of the more tense parts of Erased. Juri is becoming more kick-ass by the week in a way that feels earned, and the "bad guys" group have a mix of scarily evil, intriguing, and cartoonishly jerky.
I get the complaints about pacing--I'm frustrated that not only did the brother still not find his sister and grandpa, but they wouldn't even realize he (and now the kid) have been wandering off and are in danger. But that's part of the nature of the time-stopped world--characters can't communicate with each other unless they're face-to-face because cell phones are impossible to use. Writers often try to write out the narrative convenience of cell phones all the time, and this is an interesting way to do it!

Why couldn't Yasuomi Umetsu do character design for entire show instead of just for ED?

So the specters ( jellyfish? ) have some agency and can switch from one person to another. I wonder if they have their own agenda, and maybe there is more than one group of specters.
Will be interested to see what part the blonde from the opening of the first ep will play in this. When she got the magical tap on the head, it was from a different looking entity; it was like half-way inbetween a regular specter and the huge brown ones.

This anime seems very plot driven and it has a very good plot at that so I'm not so harsh on it because of that. Maybe geno studio has another more action packed anime in the works so there saving themselves budget for that. I'm giving this series a b+ at the moment.

It's kinda bugging me how they're not exactly on high alert, given their situation. They just wander around and ignore everything around them. I spotted that guy at the end of ep 3 a mile away. And stupid uncle doesn't exactly seem to be trying to impress upon the kid that no, the kidnapping is not over yet.
Also, how are people drinking out of cans? As was made clear in the last attempted murder scene, liquids don't flow. I guess a straw would work, but I didn't see anyone using one.

I might be misremembering it, but I recall a character raising valid questions in the first episode like "how are we breathing oxigen" and "how can we see", and they were all shrugged off with something in the lines of "it's magic, we don't have to explain it".

True, but they've actually specifically shown what it's like to get liquid out of a bottle (squeezing it like a space station drink or something), so seeing folks drink out of a can was jarring. Obviously, some of the rules are physically impossible, but they should at least be internally consistent for a show that's not trading on being random or wacky.

To be fair to the uncle, he's specifically trying to reduce trauma for the kid, and was relieved that the kid was so happy and energetic. Unfortunately, a bit too energetic and got away from him...

Maybe they're sucking the liquid through the hole? The other way to do it would be turn can sideways, move it through the air leaving behind a trail of liquid, and then eat it out of the air.

From the review I think James is forgetting that there are actually 3 groups of people. The family, the cult and the guys that the cult hired to kidnap the family. The second half of the episode wasn't focused on the Genuine Love Society but these guys.

Currently watching episode 3 and I am highly impressed with this show. In comparison to most of the jargon that has released this season. Even though grandpa is a bit of a klutz and doesn't know jack crap. I like that the MC girl is chill and tryin' to do right by her family. Lovin' this concept too, really cool idea hope this continues on a high note and doesn't end up disappointing.

I've been trying to think through the stopped-time concept. If grandpa really can stop time, it must happen everywhere on earth (and maybe throughout the universe?). Otherwise the fact that events in Tokyo had not advanced would become international news. One theory I've read suggests that the jellyfish accelerate the people they enter so much that they perceive the world as stopped. I find this the most plausible explanation so far.
The number and sizes of the Heralds is another mystery. The thugs spoke as if the large one shrank, but it seems more likely that there are multiple Heralds of varying sizes and maybe ages.
I, too, would like to see a bit more exposition about the groups involved here. Is it just a struggle between two clans over the Master Stone? What's in it for the thugs? Shouldn't they be involved in a crime rampage across the stopped world? Why aren't they stealing Lamborghinis from showrooms and taking them on joy rides? The thugs seem to display a remarkable amount of self-control under the circumstances, sitting around having seminars with Shouko while a world filled with riches lies just outside the door.
Even without goggles, that's one of the most yuri-tinged EDs I've seen in some time. I understand that the relationship being hinted between Juri and Shouko does not appear in the manga.

The most plausible explanation I have is Grandpa saying in effect, "Hell if I know." Which is kind of refreshing, actually.
My best idea is it is just Magic with a capital M. Since light has to travel if people are going to be able to see, there are all kinds of problems with trying to figure out the physics of this kind of story.
Still an entertaining story so far. I'm happy with it.

If you look at the credits, he is there under "Original Character Design: Yasuomi Umetsu"
with a separate credit for "Character Design: Masaki Hinata"
You can definitely see in in some of the base designs. Just look at the dad- he's a stock Umetsu "slob" character"
... but then Hinata, the "cheif animation supervisor" touched them up?
So maybe the question may be, why can't he be animation supervisor for an entire show instead of an ED/OP (Remember Dimension W?)
and the answer is probably the same as "Why not let Umetsu direct a series"
...Are you willing to gamble on the on-time delivery of the final episodes?
