Wow. Over a quarter of Japan either watched it in real-time or recorded it and watched within 7 days. That's pretty darn impressive!

Mega Shinkai domination! The power of Mega Shinkai once again breaking records. This might be the last time we see KnNw. dominate so we must appreciate this.

but it was a lower rating than Sen to Chihiro at Kamikakushi who scored 46.9% in 2003 when it was screened by Nippon TV.

Time passes really fast. I mean, this movie was from 2016, and still news are still putting news of this.

I hope this can help cement Shinkai's future success. This is simply the best Shinkai movie. But it is still a Shinkai movie. Rival Hosoda seems to be stumbling. While I don't need mainstream acceptance of animation, it is always nice to have that friendly reminder that 2D exists and continues. Shinkai's mainstream success is like a successful visit to the family holiday party.

Here's hoping this phenominal feat of Your Name encourages Mr. Shinkai-san to cook up another film one day!

To put it into perspective, the combined percent meant it became a temp rival for the Sazae-san ratings.
