90% of users identify as gamers, 46% female user base... But many people on the internet will still insist that women don't play games.

For some reason I'm inclined to not buy any of these numbers.

Even without these numbers i still believed most people who watch anime, also enjoy playing video games.

Only 90%? That's a surprise; thought it'd be at least 95.

Although I'm a Crunchyroll subscriber I don't fit much of their typical user profile, I don't play games, I'm way older at 59 but I am male.
Not at all surprised that there are that many female gamers, my wife is one for instance, and I've known a fairly large number of female gamers by way of my two sons that game. Mark Gosdin |

90%? Wow, I thought it'd be literally everyone but me.
Yeah, I watch anime and don't play video games. Nothing against them, I just can't get into them. Except for Ace Attorney and 2-3 mobage, but the writing in Ace Attorney got stupid after the fourth one. ... I also wouldn't self-identify as an anime fan, though. Maybe "fujoshi", but not "otaku," "anime fan," or "gamer". I watch less than five anime/year, and the ones I watch are ones that no one else talks about, at least on English sites. Anime fans don't want me to call myself an anime fan if I don't watch shonen or sci-fi anime, so I don't. (Not even "fujoshi", actually... I like fanservice, but I reject the idea that it's dirty. Just... "A person who enjoys complex stories with bisexual fanservice, the sort that is found in a small minority of anime that are ignored by "real" anime fans, and would like to see that sort of work in other media (e.g. live theatre) and wants to work to make that happen more." |

Indeed. If all 12-something million active users were surveyed, then 10.8 million would be gamers. So, since surveys often take a small sample and try apply the results to a much larger population The news headline should be "In a Survey, 90% of Crunchyroll Users Identify as Gamers" or "90% of Crunchyroll Users Identify as Gamers Surveyed Users Identify as Gamers". |

With figures like this I wouldn't expect that stereotype of "women don't play games" to disappear anytime soon. |

I think one can call him/herself a fan of anything as long as, you guessed it, you're a fan. Now, there's different levels of fan, going from someone who watches even fewer anime that you but knows that Anime is something he or she would watch if it's good enough, and then we have those "let's sacrifice virgins to get a good anime adaptation of Berserk" fans. xD |

Trash mobile games for the masses don't count. Its FACT tha majority of NON CASUAL gamers are males. PERIOD. The ones buying ps4, xbox, switch, games and consoles are a majority males (pc platform male ratio is even higher). Ultimately tell why this is relevant, if more males play games so what? if more females play games so what? apart from the now extreme leftists propaganda and constant confrontation between male vs female? Games should be developed without garbage politics, games should be developed in the vision of the creators whatever that is, they are not there to fulfill extreme leftists ort extreme conservatives progaganda of todays world.
Nice graphic. Further proves another fact many people point out and that nintendo and mario|zelda fans reject. Nintendo has now a majority of adult gamers fanbase, those than grew up with Nintendo and loving zelda and mario, today these games get almost perfect reviews because precisely the majority of fans and reviewers see them with their nostalgia glasses on, they are great games for sure, but quite far from perfect or as good as they claim. Well, apparently there's still a 10% that own Roku boxes or AppleTV's (do they stream CR?), or just chooses to watch it on their cellphone/tablets because they think that's where you have to watch all streaming. Even my SmartTV retired its old Crunchyroll app. Ever since '10, it's been the game console market that's driven the set-top living-room streaming market--We literally wouldn't have had the rise of Netflix today, let alone Hulu, CR or Amazon Prime, if not for the Playstation 3 and the X-Box. |

It's very interesting that most Crunchyroll viewers identify themselves as gamers.
I thought my type (both anime viewer and gamer) would be a minority. Perhaps some of them being gaming streamers themselves may explain this result. |
