Shame that Makishima had to die so young, but i'm sure he's gonna live on in Onoda's heart forever...
Seriously, i hadn't exactly missed this ridiculously overdramatic ("My heart belongs to the Inter-High!" seriously? ) little show, but now that it's back, i'm rather excited to see more of it. Alsop, i've always had a bit of a soft spot for Teshima and Aoyagi, so i'm glad they are finally able to take center stage and i'm pretty curious about the other new characters, too.

Hey, Abs has new hair! I kinda like it. Despite being kind of JoJo-esque, it almost makes him look normal.
And 6' 7½"?! Why isn't Ashikiba playing volleyball with his other past cycling mate? Looks like he's going to be good for some drama though.
I wonder if Maki's Kitchen is going to be a regular thing. I wouldn't mind as long as it's not every episode - I always enjoy the verbal sparring between him and Toudou.

My only problem with the first episode was that 80% of it was just recap and reused from the movie. Especially since I watched the movie right before the first episode of NG. It was a bit anti-climatic. P:

Ashikiba won me over instantly with being a gentle dork and playing Beethoven in his head while racing. Bonus points for Mamo-chan using a voice you don't hear that often from him. Teshima was awesome as well, i almost wished they could be on the same team again...

I stopped liking this show after the first half of the first season. Personally, I think it was better when the characters were still normal humans (not a fan of those crazy shounen antagonists, especially not in a sports show) and races didn't take forever.
They REALLY started stretching out the thin amount of content in S2 with countless flashbacks, recapped moments and so on. And man, it doesn't look like it will stop anytime soon.
Ah, whatever. It's cool to see that people can still enjoy this, but for me it's gone too much in a direction I don't like.

Quote: | 202-centimeters-tall Ashikiba (almost 6'6” in feet, holy crap!) |
Heh, you'll really be blown away when you realize your math is off. Add another inch and a half+ to that.

How so? We were shown this last week, when Teshima's old teammate was inviting him to the party, complete with flashbacks of them begging him not to quit the team. Ashikiba was in those flashbacks, reiterating their promise to win together, towering over the others even then. And when he was introduced proper, it was made absolutely clear he was Teshima's old teammate.
Anyway, fun episode. I wonder how many more to finish this last 1.5 K? And with the Teshima making Imaizumi hot and Imaizumi's politely saying he thinks Teshima's handsome in the tag, all I can say is, let the mass composition of Teshima/Imaizumi fanfics begin!

Episode 4
Quote: | The idea that a 6'6” Japanese high schooler would be made to feel like his towering height is anything but an asset is absurd. |
I guess Lauren doesn't read the comments (only pointing it out again since she spent a whole paragraph on his height, even while still selling him short).
He probably feels like it's not an asset in the sport he loves because no one has taught him what he needs to do to best utilize it, and also because he's apparently shooting up so fast he hasn't had time to cope with the continual changes in his body. He also doesn't seem to know about drafting, but it would be difficult for him anyway since his profile is so much higher than all his teammates. Still, it can be done (Johan Vansummeren, who actually is 6'6", won the Paris–Roubaix).
There's also the fact that he seems like a really shy kid, and towering a foot or more over his classmates probably makes him feel extra-freaky in Japan, where not sticking out (literally, in his case) is valued. I mean, his miserable ride home on the train wasn't just the one-time aftermath of losing. Whispers and people gawking at him is his life every day, and a win would at least give him a brief respite from that, as well as the affirmation he needs.
It's interesting that he was compared to Midosuji, who also gets the side-eye and whispers about how freaky he looks, as does Makishima, but their varying responses to being outliers have created three very different people.

Being 6'7.5" would make you garbage for cycling unless you are RAIL thin.
You'd never be able to beat someone who's, say, 5'2 and weighs 110 pounds in a climb. You'd only be good as a sprinter or time trial specialist.
Also, being that much taller than everyone else means you would have been mercilessly bullied in a Japanese school. The nail that sticks out gets hammed down.
I will point out that I've only watched the first two episodes.

I don't know what would surprise me more: Naruko giving up on being a sprinter or Naruko beating Midousuji. Hopefully there won't be some sort of cop-out resolution to that bet.

Never thought I'd be happy to see Midosuji show up. Creepy as ever, poor kid.

There's no way Midosuji is going to lose to him. Also, racing someone with stakes like that after racing three other people is a stupid idea.

Episode 6
Poor little chicken headed bean. He really never does get to win, does he.
But Midousuji sure does liven things up! They really go out of their way to make him more and more gross, though going from lizard to insect seems more like a devolution. Did his hair turn white during his metamorphosis? Lol at the tag, as usual.

He grew a mohawk after the inther high lol. He will let out his hair grow again, and then shave lol. He does the same to the other members in his team.

He didn't have it in the flashback though, which seemed to take place well after the Inter-High.
