He sais gorgeous so it's safe to assume he mean't visually. Hooray, we're guaranteed to see lots of pretty colors in the film!

I have never seen a production team attempt to cater so hard to a fanbase. We know the controvesy regarding white washing and trying to satisfy the fans of the source material but almost every day we get a "It is good, look, look, we have the author saying so...oh you want more, you remember the original music, well here it is...look here are some behind the scenes stuff"!
Maybe because the internet algorithm's are geared towards me but I have the seen the trailers (and similar videos) a few times a day for the past month. Starting to drive me mad.

Ghost In The Shell doesn't have two sub-par movies that preceded it along with a lead whose no longer bankable though.

Well hey hey, if we are doing the whole cynical thing you forgot this doozy:
Quote: | Oshii complemented Johansson's performance as Major and said, "She is becoming the role more than I imagined." |
So if she is more than he imagined, than that means she is slightly better than absolutely terrible!

Of course he would say that, it's shamelessly aping Oshii's own movies.
Also, I'll never stop rolling my eyes over how Oshii's movies are now widely considered "the original GITS" and Oshii himself an authority on the franchise. I mean yes, I know Shirow hasn't really been doing anything of note for a long time (he's too busy rolling around in the royalties and drawing porn, I guess) but it was him who came up with the whole thing and Oshii just made a movie based on it. And then there was SAC which is overall tragically underrated in the west...

I doubt it. The original still takes the cake for me. 90s Production IG films are absolutely stunning.

No surprised Oshii would praise this live action Ghost in Shell, he has an obvious fetish with trying to make live action films, except all his movies suck big time. Him watching something at least par on a mediocre level would be a huge revelation.
Oshii really needs to go back to animation, he still has an eye for it but unfortunately he keeps trying to apply those principles to live action with bad results.

Not entirely true. Shirows manga and Oshiis movie are completely different and the movie version is considered to be a cult classic. Shirows manga just is kind of goofy and without much of anything that defined GitS.
Watch Koukaku no Pandora if you want to see what a faithful adaption of one of Shirows works looks like. It's completely in tune with what the GitS manga was.

Of course he's not going to talk bad about a live-action movie based off his works. Money talks!
Now if the movie does poorly in the box office, then I wouldn't be surprised we hear some criticism.

I don't care what Oshii has to say, he's not the creator of Ghost in the Shell. His testimony means nothing to anyone.
