Oh boy, this looks WAY worse than I had feared. To think that I had some hopes when this project was announced for the first time...

Wait, Rui is a girl? I mean just looking at the design and physique I was sure that was a male pilot.

The appearance of some generic-looking male high school student MC was the nail in the coffin for me. Unless he goes through the same motions as Rock from Black Lagoon, nope!

I bet he is gonna stay useless almost the entire anime. The main villain(?) design looks cool though, love her hat

Ah yes, of course there's a generic high school student in it, of course.

I know the guy looking like your "average high school student" is enough to bother most people, but that's not what bothers me here, instead it's the fact that you have that in something made by the creator of Black Lagoon. In my personal opinion I think Black Lagoon is really great and very unique to this day, it's something that really standouts out as a recognizable series, however Re:Creators so far is looking like something you'd see in a more cliche and typical light novel. I really don't want to judge a book by it's cover so I'll be open to watching it when it comes out, however I am cautious with my optimism.

The more I see of this the more I think "Rei Hiroe should stick to porn and Black Lagoon".

I just got into anime and I have a serious question:
Why is it that I always see that people dislike a "generic" main character, a highschool setting, a light novel adaptation etc...
This is the second trailer for this series and I already see people saying negative things about this.
Can't you guys wait until you've watched the first episode?
Why is it that I only see this in the anime community?
I never see this bullshit with other things like movies and cartoons.
Sorry, but when I see this everywhere, it ruins my mood to watch anime..

Surprisingly enough, this pv looks better than the previous one and I find some of the character designs kind of interesting. I have pretty low expectations for this one, but I will keep an eye on it.

I agree with you in general, sometimes it's just people see things so often like generic high school main character that they're burnt out on it, other times people in anime communities like to rip everything apart and each other. If you want to stay in a good mood about anime I would honestly recommend staying away from anime communities, sure there's sometimes good feedback and interesting discussions, but there will always be people that hate things for very specific reasons or just because, also there's people that will always attempt to destroy the enjoyment of a piece of entertainment for others just because they can, or sometimes just because they dislike said entertainment. When it comes to this tho I can't help but feel a little bit of disappointment at the direction of the series in these short previews so far. I normally don't really have a problem (usually if done well) with cliches and average things you see in anime that people usually rip series apart for, but in this case the creator is known already for making something that is so vastly different then the normal high school dude for your main character that it's kind of jarring? As I said tho in my previous comment, I'm holding out hopes for the show and I'll try my best to keep an open mind, I like to be surprised by series that I don't know if I'll enjoy for not.
Edit: Also Light Novels get a bad rep because people generalize more then they might realize, sure there might be a good handful of shows and popular themes in current LNs that they don't like, but there's anime that are well received that people either don't know or forget are based off a LN, example? Spice and Wolf.

You'll get tired of those tropes eventually, trust me. When you get so much of the same crap every year, it really starts to weigh down on you and turn you into a cynical asshole.

Or you could just you know, not let it get to you lol
Let other people enjoy them and avoid watching them.
I feel like it's completely a person's choice to turn into a "cynical asshole", there's easy enough ways to avoid going down that road in my opinion. Be a happier individual because life is to short to let things like this get to you.

Thank you for your answer!
Sometimes it's sad to see so many stupid comments with no arguments, but that's life I think..
I never understood the part with the light novels, but after your explanation it's clear to me now .

You're welcome, also above all else don't let people get to you about things that you enjoy, there's always someone out there that's going to trash talk something no matter what it is. Just enjoy what you like and keep doing your thing.

The description of the character doesn't give a gender. I marked the character as a girl due to the voice actress playing Rui, but it is definitely possible the character is a guy. The character quote listed on the site has the character using the personal pronoun "boku," which is mostly gender neutral but is more often used by young boys than young girls.
I've edited the character description so it doesn't specify a gender.
