Quote: | There are also a series of gag shorts, which are decently entertaining but not great. |
I liked their inclusion, if only because the Pleiades were an interesting set of characters who got very little screen-time in the main show.

I would have rated it at 11/11 but for the fact that no explanation was provided for how Momonga became trapped in Yggdrasil in the first place.

I absolutely love the English dub for this. Chris Guerrero is not only the perfect VA for Ains, I hadn't realized he could sound so much like Liam O'Brien.

Of all the "trapped in mmo" game I think overlord is the best one at capturing the though process of hardcore players and recognize that mmo are primarily played as a social activity.
I also rather liked how the main character is completely overpowered but that this is actually a part of the story rather than just to make him more of a gary stu. It also has one of the greatest villain death scene.
Pretty decent overall but nothing special and essentially without an ending.

It was touched on a bit in the review, but I think the facial expressions deserve special mention for how great they are.
Overall, definitely a solidly good show, nothing amazing, but it's definitely better than a lot of isekai shows out there. Now if only there was a season 2....

Overlord is one of the best selling Madhouse Anime in recent years ad the fact it boosted the ln sales to the highest for 2 years straight and also the fact that next winter we will get recap movies with NEW scenes..chances for a s2 annoucement are very high,

Listening to one of the Fairy Tail commentaries, I was surprised to find out that Guerrero's normal voice is so different from the voice he uses for many other characters. Knowing that, I thought he seemed like a natural choice for this role, especially since it is his first lead role.

I ahve not read the webnovels, so this is mostly especulation based on other works and a second watch.

I think he was summoned,
someother works of the same genre made it clear that, when you summon a person, you are summoning a person that satisfies the summoning conditions, not just randomly summoning whoever may arrive; now the person they summoned does not exist in reality the close they can get is the game persona, so that's what they get.

or is he overpowered, I read his actions as if he is being really afraid of someone stronger than him suddenly appearing and killing him for good there's always this constant sense of danger because he does not know about this world.it's very easy to gnore that becuse he i steam rolling mostof the time, but it sure beats stuff liek SAO or mahouka in that aspect.

It's more clearly explained in the novels, but both are true; he is incredibly powerful compared to most of the residents of the world he was transported to, and this is clearly depicted multiple times, but at the same time he is aware that there is a possibility that something stronger may exist, or something unknown may be able to breach his strength. This is a neat way to balance an overly powerful character without ruining the sense of plot, especially in the 3rd arc when they go into detail about his chances of winning in the final battle, where it seems like some of his fears were truly founded.
Compare to, say, the Flash TV show where every problem should be easily solved by running really fast since no one can possibly match him doing anything at super speed, but they dumb him down and have him make stupid mistakes, which cheapens the character and the story.

I know right? The fact he voiced Gekko Moria in One Piece, with his slightly higher pitched voice and shrill "Kishishishishi!" laugh, is what really blew me away when I heard Ains in English. My reaction was, "That's Guerrero!? No way!". The man has some impressive range.

One also should remember that even a low power antagonist can take out a high power individual if the conditions and time are just right.
Like a farmer taking out a Knight, who wasn't paying any attention to the serf.
