Nice. Although I think it will be 1-cour...as long as they adapt it faithfully, I'm alright with it.
Winter 2017...just a few more months to go.

If you look closely at the promo picture, you can notice that (Season 1 Spoiler) Yukio doesn't have his pointed ears like he should have when he awakens his powers in the non-canon ending to the original series. It makes one wonder if they will completely disregard the ending to the first season.

As someone who has not seen the show, but plans to see it, is it a good idea to watch all the canon material, skip over the filler arc, and then start watching this season?
Also, isn't it a bit sad that this comes out before AOT Season 2?

Yeah, watch the first season. It follows the manga but then towards the end they changed it. And then read the manga if you want. There's also a movie if you wanna watch it. As for AoT, there wasn't enough materials before because the manga chapters releases only once a month...actually, thinking about it, I don't even know now lol. because Blue Exorcist 1st season came out a year before AoT...

I read some of the manga but dropped it due to time. I'm interested in checking out the anime at least, taking a look at the assembled talent for this project.
Season 1 of AoT covered 33 chapters. There are over 80 now so there would have been plenty even a year ago around this time for a second season. I'm pretty sure it was pushed back by a year only because WIT Studio put priority in favor of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.

They're going to have to. Otherwise, there'd be too many plot holes.

Why did they make an alternate ending in the first place? I can understand if the alternate end is actually good, but why on earth do something so sloppy if in the end you retcon it and decide you'll continue it.
That's actually a huge fail imo

This is one of the problems of having anime while the manga isn't too far ahead to adapt. If I recall, the first half of Blue Exorcist quickly caught up to where the manga was, which was near the beginning of the Impure King arc. Like AoT, Blue Exorcist is a monthly manga. During the time of the first season of Blue Exorcist, 12 or 13 episode seasons of ongoing or popular titles were very rare, almost unthinkable, whereas nowadays it is the norm yet also ambiguous if the anime will have another season afterwards (see Mob Psycho 100 and D.Gray-Man Hallow as good examples).

You mean the same virtual cast that every show that is trying to be popular and run event tickets has and isn't exactly starving for exposure? With an extremely hit or miss director and studio and a composer that since the first season has become entirely played out (and maybe they know it since they're asking another guy to contribute something too) I'm not sure I'm up for another round of this.
Frankly A-1 Pictures in it's current state is especially horrible at action anime so this should be something to see likely crater in animation quality rather quickly as it's probably going to be another thing that ends up on their back burner amidst the usual assortment of entirely too many things that they're always trying to do at the same time.

I don't remember it being this rare back then, stuff like Angel beats with 12 episodes die exist . But you seem to be more observing of the situation so I'll take your explanation. I watch 1 or two shows per season at best.
My point was that they could have left an open end but now I see why that wouldn't have worked

The adaptation started way too early. The manga hadn't even been around for two years and had just barely 20 chapters. The anime already covered 14 of them by the 15th episode (even with some fillers) and the manga had only just gotten into this arc. They could either continue with pointless filler or write the story differently. Either way it would take a while for there to be enough room for a continuation.

I forgot how friggin loaded the Blue Exorcist cast was... Jun Fukuyama, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Kana Hanazawa, Hiroshi Kamiya etc...
Even if I have no idea what happened in the anime original episodes despite watching it all the way till the end (probably means my brain didn't really like em) i'll definitely be watching this once it airs!
