I don't mind Sugita's Drakon too much, but holy hell Hatano's Spartos was baaaaaaaaad. And yes, this really is the beginning of the beginning. The anime's adapted roughly 55 chapters with some pretty big cutting, especially in the beginning. There are currently at least 114 chapters out, so there's easily enough material for a second season, and it'd be fun considering how the very next arc is probably my favorite in the story so far (spoilers ahead) spoiler[Drakon's story and the slavery plot were just great] |

I hope this eventually gets another season. I enjoyed it more than the main series, even if it sometimes felt like Sinbad was about to declare that he was going to be king of the pirates.

I really like this series, but the pace was indeed rushed. The manga itself is quite rushed too, but that was a prime opportunity to pad a little, especially the fights in the dungeons. I think they could've done without the Artemyra arc, leave that for next season and end this with Sinbad's company struggles in Reim and his friendship with Alibaba's father

I was looking forward to 1 thing this adaptation(since i read the manga) and they skipped it that was disappointing. I gave up on this being good and im glad i did cause this anime adaptation was rushed trash especially the Artemyra arc and sinbad pretty much has to do the generic shonen beat the main boss to get 2 of his alliance members(i hated that). Sad thing is i like sinbad and am a big fan of backstory that explains characters and give incite to them but this really was just bad ill give this series one thing in terms of animation it has magi(original) beat but sinbads story is way to simplistic for my taste 2/5(animation was good and i liked the stuff that happens when we met alibabas dad).

Considering he turns into a dragon, I think the deep voice is appropriate, though I agree it's a tad deep for his human self. |

I was never able to get into Magi because the fights tended to flow kinda awkwardly and the animation never seemed to give me much of a sense of impact during the hits. Anyone else feel this way, and does this show do anything to fix that?

I am actually very surprised to find out that Ohtaka doesn't write or draw Sinbad. There must be a strong connection between the 2 mangaka. The art styles are almost identical and Shinobu clearly has a lot of say on various story beats.
Though this would explain why the 2 stories have such a different tone and feel to them. I had always assumed it was due to the different characters but maybe it was because of the different writers. Ōtera doesn't appear to have done anything else so it seems like she might be an assistant to Ohtaka. |

Alright cool. The manga is too far in for me to start now but I'll definitely check the sinbad anime after I finish catching up on twin star exorcist if what you say is true. |

AFAIk Ohtera is/was Ohtaka's assistant drawing Magi, which is why their drawing styles are so similar |

I literally made an account to say this.
This article is wrong. Sinbad IS written by shinobu ohtaka. The art is just done by one of her very talented assistants. Yoshifumi Ohtera. |

That's interesting - the Encyclopedia has Ohtaka as the creator but Ohtera as both author and artist. |

Manga updates, as well as pretty much every other site I've seen shows ohtaka as writer. Hmmm. Odd. I've talked to many fans who know Japanese who seem to echo the notion of it being written by ohtaka as well. Imma go and do some extra research just to be sure. |

The manga volumes I have of the series credit Ohtaka as 原作 which means "original story". It is also the way you would see a mangaka credited in an anime adaptation of their work. Ohtera is credited for the manga (漫画).
The same credit scheme can be seen in Hikaru no Go, where Yumi Hotta, the writer is credited for the original story while Obata is credited for the art. Another different example would be the Attack on Titan No regrets spinoff, which has Isayama as 原作, Gun Snark for "Story" and Hikaru Suruga for 漫画/art . So it could actually be interpreted either as Ohtaka doing the story and Ohtera the art, or Ohtaka getting credit for the original idea/series and Ohtera for doing this adaptation. I'd lean on the former, but maybe there's someone with more insight into this part of the publishing business that could clarify it |

Ah, thanks for the info, that's very insightful. I suppose it can go either way then. Although I must say, with the way the dialogue is written and flows, as well as how the story is structured are both heavily ohtaka-esqe. It could be ohtera mimicking her style, cause it is a spinoff after all. But if that is the case than ohtera is damn good at it. Lol |
