I've enjoyed it thus far, but I wouldn't say a single thing in Kabaneri's plot has been surprising or unpredictable. I'd say it's par for the course as of right now.

Seriously? Nobody realized the show from the Attack on Titan team was going to be a big deal?
Anyway, gender ratios...
Kabaneri: 62% male
Re:Zero: 82% male
Sakamoto: 57% female
Bungo Stray Dogs: 86% female
Girl In Real Life: 83% male
Kuma Miko: 84% male
Diamond is Not Crash: 67% male
Haifuri: 90% male
Tanaka-kun: 60% female
Flying Witch: 89% male
My Hero Academia: 67% male
Joker Game: 69% female
And below that point, you start getting shows that don't show up on either one-gender list.
Macross Delta: 61-68% male
Mayoiga: 58-72% male
Kiznaiver: 77% female
Anne-Happy: 45-93% male
Bakuon: 94% male
After that, the only useful number is Super Lovers: 86% female.
Sorting the exact figures by gender ratio, we get...
Super Lovers: 86% female
Bungo Stray Dogs: 86% female
Kiznaiver: 77% female
Joker Game: 69% female
Tanaka-kun: 60% female
Sakamoto: 57% female
Kabaneri: 62% male
My Hero Academia: 67% male
Diamond is Not Crash: 67% male
Re:Zero: 82% male
Girl In Real Life: 83% male
Kuma Miko: 84% male
Flying Witch: 89% male
Haifuri: 90% male
Bakuon: 94% male
Sakamoto is the most evenly split by gender; Kabaneri is the one most representative of the respondents' gender ratio.

It's also the similar team who did Guilty Crown which wasn't exactly the stuff of legends so one can easily be skeptical on their next original work.

I'm going to have to give Kabaneri a try then. What's kinda sad is the absence of Magi: The Adventures of Sinbad. This show was arguably one of the most anticipated, and now it's nowhere to be seen because Netflix doesn't get that Anime fans aren't interested in binge watching a 26 episode season. Well, some of us are.

Fallout from the previous season incarnation means the polling group probably didn't bother catching it.

Lol, right?! I don't know how this flew under anyone's radar at all. I considered it the most likely big hit of the season pretty much as soon as it was announced. I think Araki is more talented than people give him credit for. He certainly knows how to make things exciting and bombastic. Naturally people are going to want to follow it week to week, even if it eventually crashes and burns. Not going to lie, I'm laughing a little bit at the people already claiming it's "so much better than AoT" though. Rewind back to Summer 2013 and those same people were flipping their shit about Attack on Titan.

But Guilty Crown was both highly anticipated and highly successful financially, so that doesn't really make sense.

Lots of overrated anime and bad LN adaptions in the top 5. Terrible.
