Pretty good list. You did leave out Setsubun (February 3), possibly because it's not actually a legal holiday, but I feel like it gets more attention than some that are. Throwing beans is fun.

Not to discredit Justin, but this is likely where he got his answer from. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Japan ctrl+f Setsubun and it isn't mentioned at all. |

Some good information in here. Between anime and Persona 4, I was at least familiar with the names and dates, but not necessarily the reasoning for the holiday or its placement.
White Day was a new one to me. but I did always find it a bit odd that Valentine's Day specified that the girls were supposed to give chocolates to the boys. With as often as I see instances of the boys hoping that they would get chocolate, I had to wonder why they didn't take the initiative if it was that important. |

Our queen used to send signed letters of congratulations to people who reach 100. Now I think they're just printed.
I don't blame people for not attending coming of age day. It seems a boring mix of pointless pontificating by stuck up bureaucrats & a milder version of Carrousel. |

I guess one of the big benefits of being Emperor is that even if your birthday is only two days away from Christmas, you still get to celebrate both in a big way instead of one "combined" celebration like my sister-in-law grew up with.

I was able to go to a Bon festival in Nagoya in 2006. It was really fun!

One of about four places. Actually tried to include the major non-official-holiday festivals (which are not on that page at all), but kinda pissed that nothing I referenced mentioned Setsubun. Grrr. |

I guess the common holidays celebrated in anime and manga are New Year, Valentine Day, White Day, Golden Week, Tanabata, Obon, and Christmas.
