Come back, Lina! Anime needs you now more than ever!
Eh, who am I kidding, if they brought Slayers back, it would be about Gourry being trapped in an MMO.

Yes. You really ought to, to appreciate how much funnier anime comedy was in the mainstream 90's.
And if only as an excuse to watch Slayers Next.

Well, that's the thing--
They DID bring it back, in Slayers R/Evolution, and while it still had the old chops....they threw in a new emotionless robot maid character anyway.
If anything's going to get the new otaku poison out of the system, it's clearly going to take more than just bringing back the classics.

I'm glad to see there's still love for a series which came out over two decades ago. Never ceases to amaze me how some stories just go *poof* out of existence while others continue on. I'm very happy Slayers is one of the latter.

Speaking of, I never got why they didn't just do the final story arc. Instead they made up an anime original season and brought back Rezo... again...

Now if only I could ever read novels 9-15.....
Still my favorite anime series, though.

Not quite original. It drew a lot from the fifth and sixth novels and pulled in elements from several of the other novels. For example, Wizer Freon was a character that appeared in the Slayers Special novels and in the 10th novel of the main storyline.
My guess about why they didn't adapt the final arc of the novels yet is because Amelia and Zelgadiss aren't in it, so you not only have to adapt the storyline to have those roles (I imagine the small riot that would happen if they didn't appear) but also deal with the fact that Luke and Millina both die.
In a lot of ways, the 15th novel echoes the first novel regarding who Lina fights and why. I could imagine the screaming over this despite the fact that it's the original novel rather than an anime-only adaptation.
The story I imagine would get adapted for an anime would be Knight of Aqualord. It's a standalone manga story that came out from 2003-2005, which was based off a canceled Slayers video game. The new characters introduced are pretty awesome, though Lyos may remind some of Pokota. Only one of the main cast, Zelgadiss, is missing from the story but it would be quite easy to add that person. It's a pretty great story and is actually my second favorite Slayers story after Next.
