I Am a Hero marks the first time that Dark Horse has licensed a manga from Shogakukan since the company began releasing manga in 1988.

Um, not true. New Lone Wolf and Cub was also from Shogakukan.

How about a digital release of Berserk, Dark Horse? It's the biggest manga title you have, and I can only find it in book form when I want it on my pad!

Yes but that was licensed by Studio Proteus before that company was bought by Dark Horse.

Hopefully this news is an indicator that seinen manga is a growing market. Dark Horse has been a leader in this demographic.

Did you even read the statement? They talked about them, but didn't say anything about more Avatar/Korra stuff (although that wouldn't be surprising considering it's popularity and sales). It was a way to bring up the editor, and then move on to the Japanese material he's edited. The only definitive statement they made was "more Japanese stuff in 2016," which is obviously a good thing.

And you'll continue to get Kekkai Sensen. It's not like they said they were dropping it or something.

I think that might be a bit ambitious. A lot of comic/manga translation companies here hire contract workers. Increased output means that they might have to hire more contractors while also possibly affecting their product prices and what they pay their staff.

They publish more manga than the four titles mentioned in the article -- Lone Wolf and Cub, Gantz, Kurosagi Corpse Delivery, Drug & Drop, Oreimo, Ah My Goddess, just off the top of my head. We're probably looking for two or three new series from them.

Nothing they say will get me to buy from them again. Tired of every series I do end up following just gets dropped or only gets published like 1 volume every 2-3 years.

While you have your reasons, the publishing issues isn't always their fault. Sometimes the Japanese licensors can the ones at fault.

It will be interesting to see how they will calculate the 25%.

Looking through past issues of Diamond Previews, they solicited for delivery in 2015 34 volumes of manga, one art book (Kon's) and a volume of Manhwa.

Of those, there were 12 omnibus volumes and 22 single volumes. This involved 16 distinct titles with two titles being issued as both singles and omnibus.

25% should equal eight or nine additional volumes involving four or more new titles.

I'm in a similar boat. I'll not outright boycott them, but I'll only get it if the whole thing is out anymore. Reiko the Zombie Shop, Ghost Talker's Daydream, Seraphic Feather, Shadow Star, 3x3 Eyes, Cannon God Exaxxion, and others have all made me rather bitter about purchasing any more. There's no guarantee they'll actually finish it, and I've been left in the dark for years wondering whether they even still have the license since they don't usually announce anything about dropping it either. I'm tired of waiting and holding out, hoping that the next volume will actually happen.

I buy a lot of anime and manga, and this is the only manga publisher that has burned me enough that it often disappoints me that they licensed something. Here's hoping that practice is gone, now.
