If I had to do something on symbolism, I'd write about revolutionary girl utena. I've not done a college paper on an anime before, I did once about the differences in western animation and anime.
I have written 2 college papers on my little pony. Including one examining the sociological aspects of Equestria Girls. And another comparing it with Lord of the Rings
Believe it or not I got a good grade

I wrote an university paper on racism as depicted in Zone of the Enders: Dolores, i. The assignment was to look at a show/movie/etc and say how it embodies the terms and ideas covered in the class. Apparently a lot of people did the movie Crash. Hurray for uniqueness.
I actually bought the series boxset just so I could do this assignment. Got a good deal for it off ebay.

I posted about Nadia: Secret of the blue water in another web forum. And this makes me remember that cause is suited for a college paper. Know why? Cause it's actually based on the novel of Jules Vern 20000 leagues under water

I just finished writing my dissertation on J-pop, rather than anime, but I did mention anime quite a bit in it.

I created a very short introductory guide to anime (a book about 20-30 pages long) for an English class in college a while back.
Basically just talked about the medium's viability as a legitimate art form, the process of adapting/creating/producing it, some of the different genres that exist, the licensing/dubbing/distribution process, and some of its cultural impacts worldwide.
Got an A.

I wrote a 5 page essay in my College Composition course on why animation is the United States is so prolific by yet so limited in it's genres and demographics and compared it other countries' less restricted animated works, like Japan, France, and Israel that I'd seen. Anime was a big part of that. Got an "A" on it, and the teacher said it was a really interesting read.
It was saved on my old computer but that thing died and electronic death long ago. I really wish I still had it....

I wrote a 4 page paper for my English Comp class on how anime started to gain popularity in the 90s. I think I got an A- for it.

No, never, and once I did a paper focusing on Godzilla Final Wars and don't want to go beyond there. Got a C, would have been higher but I had no "intellectual sources" (basically some film snob talking about it). Those six pages took forever to write.
