It's only a matter of time before there will be YouTube of Super Mario Maker featuring some super-hard levels. Compared to how limited level designing was decades earlier, the possibilities are virtually endless!

Extra Credits goes into incredible detail about the exact design of Super Mario Bros.'s World 1-1 here.
Having watched that video, I would've been surprised if they didn't go through many, many iterations until they figured what to put to best teach players how to play the game. It's the best kind of tutorial there is: The kind where most players don't even know they're being taught. Anyone who has played Super Mario Bros. and is interested in studying game design ought to see that video. Even if you figured it all out on their own, you can see that other people have come to the same conclusions analyzing the stage. |

I remember when Super Mario World rom hacks were the rage for making your own Super Mario levels. I got a kick out of the Let's Plays that people would do, and people that would use TAS would go through these immensely hard levels. This will definitely provide many people with that opportunity again. |
