Mario Creators Go More in Depth with Design Videos
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Last month, as part of a promotion for Wii U's Super Mario Maker game, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and the franchise's long-time designer Takashi Tezuka shared some of their original planning materials for making Nintendo's iconic plumber. The topic was actually discussed more in-depth at the E3 event and Nintendo is streaming the full discussion on YouTube.
According the the video, the design for World 1-1 was very time intensive with multiple drafts considered before it was perfected. The game's crew wanted the first world to teach players the mechanics of the game in an easy to understand way.
This approach is admirable, considering modern games usually require an in-depth tutorial or have a deep learning curve.
