I've never visited their site before, and it's probably nothing, but earlier today, one of my friends posted a link on Facebook to ADV Films' website while expressing some excitement, but didn't go into any sort of depth whatsoever. I figured it meant some sort of revival of the brand, but I saw no news of it upon my initial searching. I put it off a couple more hours and checked again, and this finally popped up in the results: http://www.fandompost.com/2015/02/23/is ... ming-back/.
It doesn't say much, and so far, it's the only source I've found calling attention to it, but what I gathered from what it says is that either the site has come back from the dead with a new look and a bunch of random numbers flashing across the bottom of the screen in what looks like it could be a box for a 6-digit timer without any sort of time set, or it has still been around since they went defunct, but just got updated with a new facelift (I know someone must have a better idea of which one, because like I said, I never visited the site before when it was active), but either way, there's no navigation to speak of. I don't want to get my hopes up, but it is still attention grabbing. The site in question: http://www.advfilms.com/ {I've moved this from the Talkback forum because it's not a discussion about an ANN article. ~nbahn} |

Http://www.fandompost.com/2015/02/23/is-adv-films-coming-back/ seems to be where that first link was meant to go.
What's currently there is only designed to display random numbers and nothing more, although the space they occupy could be used for a timer at some point in the future. Then again it might just be intended to look neat. |

Well considering that Sentai filmworks and Section 23 films are basically ADV films redone I am surprised with this news. The fact the site has new updated logo and is active is interesting top say the least.

What would they even be good for that their other labels don't already take care of? Those license good anime, mediocre anime, bad anime; TV series, OVAs, films; new anime, not new anime, old anime – the only thing missing would be eroanime or maybe some kind of manga division. It's not like FUNimation, who have zero desire to license anything older than YYK unless it's DB related.

ADV Films did release the Elfen Lied Blu-ray in 2013, so it does still exist.
Maybe Section 23 is reviving it just for the brand recognition. Or, as walw6pK4Alo mentioned, maybe they are going to try releasing manga again. When I go to that ADV web site I see nothing but an empty black page. |

Well, it's been 2 days. I guess I'll go back to see if anything's cha- AAAAAAAAND IT'S GONE! All I get now is a redirect to an empty search results page. Well, it was interesting while it was here. I wonder what it was about though?
EDIT: AAAAAAAND IT'S BACK! Don't know what that was about. Not the first time I've seen a website do that, but still, it was weird. |

That they're specifically using "ADV Films" rules out the manga idea; that they've always used a sublabel for eroanime makes that unlikely. And no matter what, ADV does still have bad blood associated with it, so why would you want to use it for anything? The only real answer is that ADV still has some contract they want to exploit, but warrants the hype you're going to get by resurrecting the label as anything but a sidenote? Really, the only thing that comes to mind is Evangelion; if they've won their lawsuit, it's not impossible that they've managed to actually get the movie greenlit.
@ Touma: It only works for me if I open it in Chrome. |

As I understand it, Sentai/Section 23 is made up of the former operators of ADV. They lost their rights to their company to their investors. The investors who took control of ADV and still have the rights to their small catalog of titles have no connection to Sentai/Section 23. So, if ADV comes "back" it is basically just a different company. It's like the companies that tried to operate a service under the name "Napster" by buying the rights to the name, but had no real connection to the original file-sharing service. |

Good point. It must have something to do with anime.
But some of us, I think a lot of us, have fond memories of ADV. I still watch a lot of the anime that was released by ADV. I have many of their art boxes displayed on my shelves. My walls have several Newtype USA posters with the ADV logo. I look at Sora from Kaleidostar and see "ADV". Same with many other characters that I like. I would feel positive and optimistic about a revival of ADV.
I tried it in Chrome and it does work. Thanks.
Who released Elfen Lied in 2013? Was that just the investors? EDIT: The advfilms.com domain is registered to Perfect Privacy LLC. As you might expect that is a service that hides the identity of the real registrant. The domain registration was updated last month. So somebody is up to something. |

Gonna do a slight necro on this. I actually almost forgot about it for awhile until it randomly decided to pop into my head a few moments ago. I just visited the site, and a new, but possibly very minor development has occurred. For the most part, the ADV site is the same as it was a few months ago with the randomly changing numbers, except now when you visit the site, a form window automatically opens up in the website, saying:
"Want to know what we're up to? Fill out the form below, and we might just tell you." Then it proceeds to ask for your Email, first and last name, and birthday, though E-mail and first name are the only ones it says it requires. I haven't filled it out because I'm kinda leery about providing my E-mail to something before I fully know what it is, but then again, I'm put off by most things that require my E-mail. Still, it's a development nonetheless. |

^ I filled out the form.
The site is active to the extent that I immediately got a confirmation email with a link to activate my subscription, but I do not think that there is any more to it right now. The email that they sent to me included this: " Once you click on the link, we'll be able to share more information with you. Though it may not be right away..." (the ellipsis is theirs, not mine) So it seems that they definitely are planning something, but they are not ready to do anything yet. I had to disable Adblock Plus to get the site working in Firefox. |

Speaking of which, since they're the same people behind these two companies, why is it that ADV's dubs were higher in quality than Sentai Filmworks' recent dubs despite having most of the same people? Compare Excel Saga, Full Metal Panic, Kino's Journey, Welcome to the NHK, and Princess Tutu with Clannad, Angel Beats, and The World God Only Knows. |
