Thank you Maiden Japan/Sentai. I was beginning to think that you were not releasing this OVA. I look forward to more great content and stunning visuals from the BD's.

I bet Justin is very happy right now.

About damn time!

Any word if MJ also licensed the BD-version of the movies and/or when it's finally coming out in the US?

or does Funimation have the movies-license instead?

It has one of my favorite episodes of a Patlabor series, "Snow Rondo".

So how's the quality on the MJ releases compared to the old ones? Wanna know if I should bother double dipping or not.

Great news. Since I already own the Japanese movie BDs (which include English subs), this was the only missing piece in my Patlabor Blu-ray collection.

I am no expert, but the video on my BD's of the tv series look great. But Justin Sevakis is an expert, and he recently commented in a ANN Cast that the video in the Maiden Japan BD releases looks great. I imagine the video for this upcoming OVA would be of the same high quality.

This is great to know. I might import the movies if they are not soon released locally on BD.

I never knew Oshii directed The New Files. I just always assumed it was Naoyuki Yoshinaga, since it's a continuation of the TV series and has more similarities with that than the original Oshii OVA.

It was Yoshinaga who directed New Files. Oshii only wrote some episodes, like he did on the TV series.

Edit: I just noticed that ANN's Encyclopedia credits Oshii for directing it, but there are three error reports saying it was Yoshinaga.

Since they are not going to dub it the CPM DVD release that I have will be good enough.
I like the show, but not enough to buy it again just to get better video.

And just when I think Maiden Japan pulled its final disappearing act, they release another show with limited appeal from their only franchise.

I want to see more license rescues from them, not this rerelease of CPM's original pity release.
