Bloody fantastic news. It's definitely running on Awakening's engine, but more FE is definitely a good thing. More of a samurai bend this time around, which will be pretty cool to keep things fresh.

Weird. The American and European directs just went with Fire Emblem (tentative title).

Ooh, awesome! Awakening was the first Fire Emblem game I've ever played, and I loved it, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.

The character designs look kinda bad, or I'm too used to Chrom and his comrades. Still waiting for a Wii U Fire Emblem game, Tellius Series or not.

Probably because Japan always has weird titles for their video games.

aww i wanted one for the wii u, i mean portability is nice but console versions usually have more bells and whistles the handheld versions
i sincerely hope they add a REAL multiplier feature to this, after youve maxed out everything and beaten the game on insane mode u could really use a challenge

I was so excited until I saw the pairing system return. I immediately lost interest after that.

They also announced the Fire Emblem TCG in the Japanese direct, but left it out of the American direct, so I guess it wont be released here. Time to import the cards I guess.

And usually cost more to produce and with Japan kind of being wishy-washy on consoles Nintendo isn't exactly jumping up to put a new one on.

That's a lot of negativity over a relatively optional and tactically useful feature.

Not really. FE is my favorite franchise. But I couldn't stand Awakening because of the pairing system (among many other horrible decisions in that game). Just from the trailer, I can see the pairing system back, so I lost interest. Also it's not optional, it's part of the game. I don't like to go out of my way to give myself handicaps to make a game good, it's the dev's job, especially in a strategy game. If the enemies can pair, then I may be fine with it.
@LokiReed
It seems to be cancelled. IS isn't that large of a developer. Since FExSMT was announced Pushmo World, Code name STEAM, and this game were announced. I can't imagine they have the capacity to work on 4 games.

Except it's not cancelled unless Nintendo confirms it. Besides, Atlus is also contributing so there might be some issue is syncing schedules is all.

Of course. Though it was announced that IS would develop this, not Atlus. Besides Nintendo hasn't mentioned the game in two years, it's awfully long.
Regardless, I hope we get the game, but it seems less likely.
