Hm, so if you bought a PS3 game on the playstation store, and your PS3 broke like a year later, there would be no way to re-download it again on a new device?

Or will they make it so you can re-download past digital purchases on the PS4 or something else without buying them again?

That's not what PS Home is. The service where you buy/win promotional stuff for an avatar you create and hang out with other avatars is shutting down. The Playstation Store and PSN is still definitely going to be around for a long while on PS3.

I never used it once. It seemed like a failed attempt on Sony's part to try and get the Second Life crowd;obviously it was a waste of time and money on their part.

Huh! What does the PS Store have to do with PS Home? PS Home is their social site of sorts. That's the one that's going bye-bye.

If your PS3 breaks down, then just buy another PS3. Your PS Store purchases are tied to your PSN id and will transfer over to another PS3 very easily.

I tried it twice, wasn't very interesting, though I have heard they have some decent games.

Ah, sorry for the mistake. I only use the PSN for buying games, so I didn't even know this existed before now.

I've had my PS3 for almost four years and have never been bored enough to use this. Good riddance. I hope theY remove the icon from XMB.

Yeah I heard about this yesterday on IGN News. I'm kinda surprised that ANN would report on this. Shocked

I honestly don't know anyone who used this service. Heck, I tried it once in 2009 and never touched it again. I am surprised to hear people still went on it

Yeah it seems they report on whatever comes to mind these days (not even anime related half the time)

Welcome to the beginning of the end of PlayStation Network on PlayStation 3. Not too much longer from now they'll cut off PSN support for the PS3 entirely.

And things like this further go to show digital doesn't last, and that an all-digital future and online-only future for gaming (Among other things) is terrible. Unfortunately it seems we're heading in that direction, lovely...

Well i agree and disagree there. I can't agree to seeing this as the end to PSN on PS3, whilst it's definitely going to face this road once day, i doubt that is any time soon, the users of PS3 are still high (probably higher than PS4 if im honest) but there are still lots of games being released for ps3, and whilst that is happening it seems unreal to release games with content ect then close market shortly after...

I do however agree this is where digital falls, i never cared for it myself, i want a game - i would rather own a disc (this proves point as to why, well when PSN closes not avatars), digitally this is a issue, besides it's commonly cheaper to own physical. So dread the day they close psn for ps3, i don't own a ps4 (my brother does i guess) and i have little motivation to own one so...
Guess i can hope this day is still far away.

Ha, yeah. I tried it a couple of times very early on just to see what it was and wasn't impressed. Right around the time where I was starting to hear that it had improved there were also plenty of good games coming out, so I never bothered going back.

Basically an immersive MMORPG game--not even a game, just a series of corporate tie-in promotions with mini-games--that seemed really cool back in the days when PS3 didn't even have its own MMORPG's yet.
Played it a couple times, but I'm not the proverbial MMORPG addict, and once in a while, when they would announce some Sony tie-in event, my reaction was, "Oh, that thing's still around?"

Now, what about that other thing we all thought was so cool back at the beginning, where you could leave your machine on and tie into some science databank-network that needed the computer space; is that thing still going, too? Very Happy

My friend played around with it when he had his ps3, but I've never tried. I might as well try it around for a bit before it's taken off.
