At the risk of sounding unsophisticated:
EEERRMAGUUUUURRRRDDDDD!!!!!!!!
This looked absolutely stunning!
If Dreamworks and co can pull off a full feature on that level it will look (if nothing else) fantastic!!!

That's kinda awesome to see. I want whoever in Hollywood to produce a live-action Ghost in the Shell to hire these guys to get involved in any future productions.

Look at the credits to any CGI-blockbusters. You have at least ten different studios and hundreds of animators working on various scenes or shots, so I guess this team being hired for some of them wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.

Quote: | Coincidentally or not, this homage is perfectly timed, falling in line with the 25th anniversary of Ghost in the Shell's original publication. The American live-action adaptation of Masamune's classic is scheduled for production under film company Dreamworks. |
Manga UK is celebrating in its own way by doing a special edition steelbook-with-booklet blu ray release--of the original non-2.0 version of the movie! While others can hope that it might make it stateside, I'll be taking advantage of my region-free player for this one in the meantime.

I wonder when they are going to complete the real short. This behind the scenes look was very nice though.

I have to admit that was really something. You can tell the work and effort and love they have for it. If the actual movie looks anything like what you see there it just might be pretty damn good.

I've got to admit, this wasn't bad. I don't know how many will feel about a non-Asian person playing Mokoto Kusanagi but still,a good effort nonetheless. I hope in the Hollywood version of this they make her either a Japanese immigrant or a visitor to this country. It'll be interesting to see how this is handled.

Making a good movie relies on more than just "wow such cgi, many polygons." The problem with all the big blockbuster failures isn't any of the technical stuff, it just comes down to awful scripts or horrendous direction. That's the stuff I fear the most in possible future anime adaptations, is just them completely missing the thematic elements of the story that give it meaning and intrigue and making a pile of garbage that "looks good." I guess I'm just not won over by tech demos.

Yeah, exactly. The screenshots manage to get the imagery part of GitS down better than I'd have expected of an homage team, but the questionable editing in their own promotional video belies a lack of good creative judgement.
And what on earth is with the color timing? Like, Ghost in the Shell was pretty green, but it did have a bunch of other colors too, and it certainly wasn’t all diffuse blue. It looks like a Machinima production. Or a Battlefield 3 trailer.
That's the problem with pretty much all these productions. Even when they're copping imagery from one of the greatest sources of imagery in anime (and doing it well), they end up with it looking just the same as everything else because their cinematographer is either not being given good directions or just doesn't have an ounce of good sense. That combined with abuse of digital color correction makes them have pretty much that exact same one-hue high f-stop aesthetic that pretty much every cheap made-for-innanet scifi productions has.
I dunno. I mean, I wish them the best of luck and hope they end up with something great, but what we have doesn't exactly engender any faith in their filmmaking abilities. At least, to me.

Based on the title, I thought the homage was completed. Hopefully, the finished product will be as good as Rosa was. Which the movie version appears to be in development hell.

The Ghost in the Shell movie is too complex for a big budget summer blockbuster thus i fear the Hollywood version. It would also be pg 13. And 15+ years of development hell is never a good idea. Look at Duke Nukem Forever. A premium channel cyberpunk cop show would be a better venue. I have the same opinion of the Deus Ex adaptation they are currently doing. The fan project though is of coure highly welcome and reminds me of the Akira fan video from earlier this month. I am amazed how good low budget cg is looking now. True love for art can move the needle after all. At least GitS Arise and Sleepless Eye are amazing.

it looks amazing but the hair is wrong, and she doesn´t have enough tits. It needs a busty Japanese woman in her 30s.
There are some gravure idols that could fill the bill.

ohhhhhhhhh I'm ALL about the quality of that clip!!! For me, it's still very hard to find anything that is more crisp than Innocence. Very fired up about what I just viewed!! Thanks ANN! I sure hope Hollywood won't ruin it with the typical formulas you find in every thing they put out. "love interest", "comedy relief", "intentional cheese" etc etc. And PLEASE no orchestra score... Please!!!!
