My post here;
animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=4270513#4270513 For some reason, you can't write cant without an apostrophe at all. Or at least I can't, are others afflicted? (Note the second one in above sentence was written without the apostrophe) Noticed when trying to post an url for a reference and it turned invalid.. One other oddity; If I choose Edit, the apostrophe hasn't been added in the text. However if I choose Quote, the apostrophe has indeed been added. Edit; Yet another oddity, in the title of this thread, aside from the first Can't gaining an apostrophe, the capital C turns lower case. Edit2; Tried with Chrome instead of Firefox but the problem persists. So it's probably not related to browser. |

I just want to confirm that I cant post "cant" without the apostrophe either, though I just tried twice in that sentence.
I thought that the forum software might have a grammar filter that was "fixing" it for us, but I have no problem posting wont, isnt and wouldnt without apostrophes. But I also cannot post "didn't" without the apostrophe. What makes it seem really strange to me is that "cant" without the apostrophe is a valid English word. It has many more definitions than I ever would have guessed, but I do not see any that might be offensive enough to make it a banned word. I definitely am curious about this. |

Same issue here with an url, except with 'dont';

This is kind of silly; after all, can you really walk something heavy if you can't cant it? Shall we be reduced to dragging our shelves across carpet? However shall we know if someone has the cant of a true fan? SOMEBODY TELL ME!!!!!!!!!! [/hysterical breakdown]

Polycell, thanks for the tip. Apparently just by inserting a pair of BBCode tags between n and t causes the apostrophe from appearing.
Cant without apostrophe and capital C written normally Cant with a tag pair between n and t Unfortunately it doesn't work on urls that well... |

I just tried it on a lark, based on an old memory from a forum with custom software(which is why it's so elaborate in my post - anything less wouldn't beat their censor and I think the order might've been important as well). I was actually quite surprised to find it worked; I'd already composed most of the post before I tested it.

I did find a way to make the url work too, by shortening the last part;
Original; http://en.rocketnews24.com/2014/02/12/you-can-look-at-this-life-size-super-sonico-anime-figure-but-you-cant-touch/ Shortened; http://en.rocketnews24.com/2014/02/12/you-can-look-at-this-life-size-super-sonico-anime-figure-b/ Seems to work as long as you don't completely strip the last part. Doesn't work for all urls though, like the other one mentioned; http://theangryotaku.blogspot.com/2008/02/dont-panic.html |
