All of the story descriptions for Zestiria have used the word "Doushi" with the same kanji as Tales of the Abyss, so I used the English version's rendering of the word. There might be a connection to Abyss, who knows.

Wow, like Phantasia and Symphonia? That would be interesting.
Reminds me of all that talk about how FF7 and 10 were somehow connected.

If this is true, I can't scream for joy loud enough!
Abyss is my absolute favorite Tales game.

Same here! It'd be great if there were a slight connection (like 4000 years' difference) to Abyss! That would explain why Slay's clothes sort of resemble Anise and Ion's outfits, too.
As long as they don't reveal the ending to Abyss, this would be the best possible result for Abyss' 10th anniversary! It's even coming out in 2015, when Abyss came out in Japan, so it's looking even more possible!
I was already hyped for this game, but this only makes it better!!

I think that's a little misleading. They've been rendering doushi as priest on Abyssal Chronicles and that seems more accurate (the kanji is probably just a generalization). There has been no word of Zestiria being related to past Tales games (and generally, like the FF series, Tales games are not connected).

It's not unheard of though. Symphonia takes place around 4000 or so years before Phantasia. If this game is in the abyss universe I wouldn't be too surprised if it were a prequel as opposed to a sequel.

That is a possibility, and this is something I've only heard previously, but Namco has never intended to connect previous console era Tales games with the newer ones. The problem with connecting worlds as prequels or sequels is having to mess with some of the story canon that's been established at this point, and that is problematic considering you risk getting negative reactions from your consumers. You remember how Dawn of the New World turned out.
Phantasia and Symphonia will probably be the oft talked about example of the same planet with related items based on the references made in-game, but in other cases, it's easy to simply write, "This game took place x years before/after this game." Proving it is a different story.
That weird triple R dimension thing they tried to pull with Tempest, Innocence and Hearts so that their worlds are connected was honestly pointless (I'm sure once they make it, Tempest R will fare no better in that regard). The only one that makes any honest-to-god sense is Destiny and its sequel, since it stars the offspring of the previous game's hero.
