Really no better way to check if your legislation went through than to go by something yourself.

Well don't know what to say about this, probably trying to confirmed if the tax hike has been implemented and see how most of the retailer are reacting to this.

I find this headline hilarious. It's just the way it sounds. Who cares what he buys so long as he's not using tax payer money to do it with. Although tax payer money does pay his salary to some degree.

432 yen for a Golgo volume and a bottle of mineral water still sounds pretty dirt cheap to me, maybe I'm mistaken.

So he bought a volume of Golgo 13, who wouldn't pass on that series?

It's gone up to 21 % here ... well i almost never buy stuff from my boring country anyway.
We are the only one in europe that has 21 while the rest of Europe is still at 6/9.
About the actual topic it's pretty awesome that he doesn't make a secret of it and it's always better to have a few folks in the Japanese goverment that like it instead of non, which might cause some more problems which censoring and what not.

Aso would like to ban explicit manga, so he isn't the champion some make him out to be.
His love for the medium is mainly nationalistic propaganda. Manga is a uniquely Japanese creation, so Aso has huge interest in it as a cultural mark on the world. Nevertheless, his politics are along the same lines as his peers.

This is part of the government spin efforts not to let the tax hike hurt consumption. The PM himself went on a photo-op filled shopping spree on the day of the tax hike to downplay any possibilities that it may discourage spending. Japan has been hurt by deflation for the past years, largely brought about by the Japanese person's hesitation to spend (I can only guess Rozen Maiden-style free online consumption is behind it).
In any case, considering his expensive tastes I'm surprised Aso didn't buy more than that. Now's the (politically correct) time to splurge!

Of course, the intelligent time to splurge was any time before that, which is why he only had $4 left in his wallet for this PR stunt.
