i haven't had the chance to watch the entire series but in the last episode when it said that buster machines 1 and 2 were coming home, was it talking about noriko?

If you haven't seen the entire series then why did you watch the last episode? Anyway yes it was talking about Noriko and Kasumi. It's how Gunbuster 2 (Diebuster) ties into Gunbuster. Basically they both have the same ending, as when Lark looks up into the sky, the stars are Buster Machines 1 & 2 (aka Noriko and Kasumi) finally returning home. It's the big punch for the ending.
