Actually,Madoka cant do it.Seeing how there hasn't been a single good animated movie released this year and how it is the last work of Hayao Miyazaki,Wind Rises might get a nomination.

Also wondering what happened with Wolf Children. That's awful that it didn't get through.
I think The Wind Rises will probably get it, yeah. Just because it's their last chance to give Miyazaki an award again. It would be awesome if that and something else anime got nominated, though...

Welp, looks like people were right when they suspected Wolf Children wouldn't be eligible. You have Funimation to blame for this failure.

The Wind Rises is definitely one of the top contenders and Miyazaki definitely does deserve it. But I do love my Madoka. If either of them got a nomination, I'd be happy.
It's a darned pitty about Wolf Children though.

Letter to Momo might nudge out the latest Miyazaki film. It was quite good. Much as I liked the two Madoka movies, I don't really see them as Oscar material.

The people behind the Oscars are too old to understand Madoka, Miyazaki's got a chance though.

You mean a movie that you haven't seen, that's a cash-grab sequel to a TV show that almost nobody of importance in America knows?
I don't know. Maaaybe Wind Rises can get a nomination, but I can't see it winning even in a weak year.

2013 was a really weak year for domestic animated feature films. Only ones on that list I'd vote for are the croods &/or Monsters U. As for anime I would love to see Momo or Wind Rises win an Oscar.

Madoka isn't yet eligible - it hasn't had its 1-week L.A. theater run (could do it next year). Also, Japan already submitted its Foreign Film applicant (The Great Passage directed by Yuya Ishii) - every country is only allowed one.
Meanwhile, it's possible that Funimation and Japanese co. didn't submit the Wolf Children paperwork that's required.

*Points at Planes* While we're pointing out cash cows here.
Admittedly, as much as I hope it will, I doubt Madoka will. As you said, being a sequel to a TV series will not help it one bit.

Madoka is having its US premiere in LA and it has a week run from 6-12th December there.

zen: They probably either got cold feet about Wolf Children's prospects or they waited too long to beat the home video release in Japan. Really, though, the Hosoda bone which should've been submitted is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. That one would've had a shot at being nominated. Also, I'm still baffled that Manga sat out Redline. Anyway, I hope Kick-Heart made it in, too. It should qualify. They just gotta make sure they didn't get screwed on the paperwork.
dm: I didn't see Wind Rises yet, but Momo really is a dark horse. I do know that Wind Rises is definitely not going to be the type of film the Academy will consider for more than nomination, though. Especially since Miyazaki already got the gold.
As for Madoka, the problem is they sent in the wrong one.

I can't see Madoka making enough sense to anyone who hasn't seen the TV series for it to get nominated.
The lack of a Wolf Children nom is a damned shame. It's certainly better than any of the American films.

Sorry for not being in the know, but would anyone care to explain why Wolf Children wasn't eligible?
