Nice to see this series get more exposure via a review here; AoD's been calling it a great "under-the-radar" series that more people need to watch. For whatever reason, Bandai licensed Fantastic Children before it even went on air in Japan (though it was fansubbed nonetheless), either because they had high hopes for it or because it was sufficiently cheap. I already picked up the first two disks, though I haven't actually seen any more than a brief section in a convention viewing room. Too bad the English dub is so sloppy--to hear that coming from a reviewer who is an avowed dub fan, it doesn't give me much hope. The runtime error also disuaded me for awhile, until I did some research online and discovered that the episode lengths were normal. I think that the "casual browser" type of fan would sooner pass over "5 episodes 75 minutes" instead of investigating, so Bandai are hurting their sales a bit here.
Still, it's pretty good value to get a 26-episode series in 6 discs for significantly less than $100 total, with discs running $12-$15 at online stores.

I'm pretty certain that a dub existed for this series prior to Bandai having licensed it, much like their release of Dan Doh. As for the dub being kinda crap...I'm not too surprised. Dan Doh was fairly half-baked. If you take a good look at the credits, you'll see that the cast is probably comprised of a half dozen people or so, plus the ADR director. If Bandai can get an obscure product out here with a so-so dub, I'm happy just to be able to see it...and at a good price no less. I'm sure no matter how crappy the dub is, it can't be half as bad as anything dubbed by Arvitel Media. Smile

It's seriously debatable whether Arvintel Media's dub on Green Green or the dub on this one is worse. Both were among the worst I've ever heard.

This series is one of the best! It's a favorite of mine. The original Japanese cast is also great. Forget the dub this time and watch it subbed! It's well worth the effort!
