The replacement doesn't look bad though. What IS bad is that not only is Nana being replaced, but Ren is as well. As long as Mika stays in, I'm there! |

Harima: "Moves like Colonel Stuart." It was funny to see Harima shadowbox in the nude. I still need to finish the rest of the third volume. So far, Harima is still a funny character. I do agree that he should draw manga again. The author made a few references to Gundam in this volume. I wonder if Jin Kobayashi is a Gundam fan. Harima even uses the God Gundam's finishing move, the God Finger. |

There is no way that it costs that much. Sure it is very wide, this must have been an error. I looked through it in stores and it basically just has a lot of pages. I checked the Del Rey Manga website and looked it up on Amazon. Both sites have it down for $10.95.

WHich Hachi? Ah, hard choice...
Hachi#1 always came off as too innocent to me. People who watched the movie with me but didn't read the manga didn't understand why I disliked her so much until I was able to explain all the backstory. New Hachi, however...looks a little too worldly, at least in that picture. But she's definitely more sexy-hot than cutesy-cute like Hachi 1. I like... I dunno...you need someone more...annoying, I think. Someone who makes bad decisions and doesn't learn from them. |

What suprised me the most about the second volume of ES is the uncanny resemblance to Domu. I mean it's expected that any manga involving psychic warfare is going to be compared with Otomo's Akira, but I'd be interested to know if the author was influenced by Otomo's lesser known (and in my opinion better) single volume work. Putting aside that unfair comparison (despite some similarities the two stories are pretty diffrent in plot and themes) the second volume was quite good. I enjoyed the first but by the second half it was beginning to seem like the story would work better as a lengthy one-shot. Despite some flaws this volume proves it has long-term potential and might prove to be one of the year's best new books. It's ironic this title and the recent licence Mushishi are proving to be far more "adult" than Del Rey's actual mature books.
As for the battle of the Nanas (or is it Nanai...), #2 has more sex appeal, but then again the character always seemed to be more of a play on the steriotypical Japanese/shojo woman, which fits the more "cute" look of #1. |

I just finished reading ES 2 the other day, and I have to say my impression of Yuri was almost completely opposite. On a superficial level she gave me the "Dakota Fanning creepy little kid" vibe. And I found it interesting how she is so much like Isaac in how spoiler[she doesn't care if people -she doesn't like- die, and doesn't really separate right from wrong]. I suppose she is innocent as in she isn't fully aware of how the world works, but I don't think she can be directly thrown away as two-dimensional. Of course, that's just my opinion, and my judgement is probably a mite clouded considering how much I love this series, just from those first two books.

Just be aware that the cover art is not at all what the art inside the book looks like. The cover looks great, the inside looks like a webcomic. Just sayin'. |

In reply to the 19.95 typo, it reminds me of how manga used to be priced. I know that Dark Horse usually sells the most expensive manga at about 15$, but beyond them how often is manga sold now above the 10.95-ish mark? [just out of curiosity...] |

I really hate misleading covers like that. I actually did pick that book up, just because the cover was so shiny lookin' and was disappointed when I opened it. It's another reason why American comics haven't ever attracted much of my attention. |

#2 doesn't seem very Hachi-like to me... But on the other hand, she's sexier, so I'm okay with the change.
