Huh, that's cool that he's an anime/manga fan. Might go see the film, maybe.

I wouldn't consider comparing yourself to Shinji a good thing, but that's just me.

I tend to agree, though apart from his introversion Ender's personality is pretty different from Shinji's (up until his guilt complex in later books, at least).

Also, while I pretty much nodded off during Hugo, and I usually hate when they whitewash, I would be ok with him playing Tetsuro, if Hollywood ever greenlit a live-action Galaxy Express 999. Obviously, it would have to be soon, though.

He isn't comparing himself, he is comparing the character Ender Wiggin!

I don't see that as a good sign for this movie...

I agree with him.
Both of them are thrust into the position of savior of the world by gruff military figures they haven't met before. Both of them have psychological issues and have childhoods shaped by bullying. Both of them have a family figure they're distant from (terrified of, in Ender's case; estranged from, in Shinji's). Both of them end up fighting aliens in high-stakes science-fiction battles and practically come apart at their mental seams while doing it.
Evangelion definitely has its differences - more sexual elements, the characters are older, Shinji is more of an ordinary guy, weird religious stuff, giant robots - but I could see some of the outlines of Eva when I read Ender's Game.

If he's a "Death Note" fan too, he should definitely play Near in the Shane Black movie (if it actually adapts the Mello and Near arc).

Yes, compare the lead to the whiniest buttwhistler in fiction. That will make me want to see your movie.

I made the connection years ago when I first encountered Evangelion around 1999. In fact I'd say I first got into anime as an extension of my love for sci-fi and fantasy, and Eva especially reminded me of Ender's Game, which was a formative influence on me as a young nerd in middle school. (Which is I think the best time to read that book.) I thought of Shinji in many ways as Ender, if he had grown up with distant or absent Asian parents instead. (ie, if he had grown up like me!)
The main difference is that Ender grows in cunning and resourcefulness over time, whereas Shinji gets beaten down time and time again and remains needy until the end. A more depressing picture in many ways.

Well, they do both want to have sex with their sisters.
(A clone of your mother is your sister... think about it.)

Technically, however, it would still be your mom and not your sister, because that clone still contains the identical DNA code of the mom. A real sister would have a similar but still uniquely different DNA strand from the mother, because a fetus needs two different strands of DNA to form.
