Saw the movie a few weeks ago but noticed no discussion about it. I will rectify this.
I'm assuming I'm not the only one to catch it? How'd everyone else like it? I thought it was a cute, fun little flick for much littler kids; a demographic Ghibli hasn't really played to since Totoro. Also, Baron is a really snappy dresser. Discuss! |

Being a huge fan of Mimi wo Sumaseba (If You Listen Closely, AKA Whisper of the Heart), I've been really wanting to see this. I should just break down and import it, but there's too much other stuff I want first.

This was a pretty fun little flick to watch - I actually saw it a couple months ago when it premiered in Hollywood. I am pretty sure that everyone who came, enjoyed the film. It reminds me of those fun adventure movies I used to watch as a kid. Spirited Away was also an adventure movie, but I thought that The Cat Returns was a little more fun. A great family flick and a welcome break from the usual anime fare.
The only thing that makes me scratch my head is their translation of the title - I first thought that the Returns part meant that someone was coming back from going somewhere, but Ongaeshi means requital of a favor. The Cat Returns the Favor is more accurate, but not as catchy I suppose. Oh well, just a minor quibble... |
