This should be in the retail forum, yeah?
Anyways, I knew the series was discontinued, but I just looked up the prices on Amazon. Insane. |

I could've swore someone posted this info 6 months ago.
I'm kidding, of course, since you're new.
Funimation never owned the show, they just released it for Geneon as part of a deal they had before they collapsed. You'll notice that the box set you're referring to (or any of them, really) doesn't have Funimation's logo on there, it only has Geneons. The reason it's discontinued is Funimation's fault, it's because Geneon's original license expired, and they obviously can't renew it since they're no longer around. It is possible, however, that Funi could rescue the first two seasons since they did license Roberta's Blood Trail. They rescued the original Hellsing TV series when they got Ultimate and they rescued the first season of Shana when they got the second season (and the movie and the OVA), so there is a chance. |

King, they "rescued" those shows quite a while ago, and we still haven't heard a word yet. As it stands, they're too busy with their Classic re-releases, and questionable DVD/Blu-Ray combo packs.

Irrelevant.
They have them. They're going to be released. The end. |

Ok, then what about the next pickle? Dubs. Funi is never savvy with outsourcing dubs outside of their own in-house studio. They made very few exception, and even then, at least half of the cast would be some of their own guys. Black Lagoon is in an even trickier position considering they're done by the Canadian Ocean Group.

FYI, FUNimation hasn't officially announced that they have full home media rights to Shana S1 and the first four volumes of Hellsing Ultimate. With that said, I just don't see any way that they don't release them. It's also possible that they may not formally announce it. Two examples would be Samurai Champloo and Gungrave. They are the first two of the former distributed series that are now fully under FUNimation. |

That has nothing to do with your original post, but whatever. What does it matter if it's outsourced or not? Was most of the core cast back or not? In the case of Badland Rumble? No. In the cases of Tenchi Muyo, Slayers, Sengoku Basara? Yes. I'm more impressed by the fact that Funimation was able to bring VAs from California and New York than if they were able to simply hire another company. And hell, they have a better track record at rejoining casts than the other companies. I mean jeez, Bandai couldn't get the same cast for Saber Marionette J, J to X, or R, and they were the original license holder each time. Do you have a legitimate worry for them not getting back the original cast? Kind of, since BL is Canadian production. However, am I justified in having no worries? Absolutely, because Funimation has a better track record than you seem to misremember.
I was referring specifically to episodes 5-7 when I brought up Ultimate, but I was sure they had Season 1 of Shana. And you're right, it'd make no sense to not get those shows' rights as well. I certainly wouldn't be surprised by a sneaky release like Gungrave. |

Actually, I was thinking of Evangelion, but whatever. I supposed Hellsing isn't a real worry, but Lagoon is gonna be uphill.

While I would love the entire original VA cast back for Roberta's Blood Trail, I could live with just having Maryke Hendrikse as Revy and Dean Redman as Dutch. I just can't imagine any other voices in those roles.
Oh, and I'm very glad I already own Black Lagoon and Black Lagoon: Second Barrage. |

Ain't that the truth. With those prices, I'd hate to be a newcomer. |

They have been working with Ocean on the TV broadcast of Dragon Ball Z Kai so chances are pretty high.
You forgot the Evangelion movies where they only brought back Shinji & Misato's VAs. You also forgot Sakura Taisen where they, at the request of Sega, had to outsource the Sumire OVA to California so that they could bring back the movie cast while the other OVA they had, Ecole de Paris was dubbed in-house. As for Tenchi Muyo, they did outsource OVA 3 & GXP to California however, they only brought back the original cast for the former and not for the latter and as for Sasami: Magical Girls Club, that was dubbed in-house. |
