I was wondering how many people watch anime multiple times or if they get them and watch them once. i find my self watching them once if i get them on my computer but than when i buy them on dvd i all ways tend to watch my anime more than once. i like watching them more than once because you can under stand the storys better and also be able to pick up stuff you miss out in it on the first time. so i was wondering if people feel the same way and watch anime just a single time or multiple times.

Nowadays I usually I just watch anime episodes once, but my record is twelve times for each episode on the first Gravitation DVD. (It was my first BL anime, and it got me hooked.)

Depends a LOT on the show for me. Everything I've rated as Masterpiece I've seen at LEAST 3 times, but some of them I've seen at LEAST 15 times (Haruhi, well I've seen at least the first few that many times, but I've only seen the last episode 2 times )(I've also watched several parts of shows Naruto like 10 times when I was really into it).
If the show doesn't merit at LEAST an 8/10 (or more realistically a 9), I won't go back and rewatch it, no matter if I have a hard copy or not. Usually I just go back and watch specific parts I really like, but if I catch myself rewatching the entire series, it's my policy to go back and bump it's rating up a star (doesn't happen that often).

Usually I'll watch a series, give it two or three months and then rewatch it. In that time I've usually forgotten most of the details, sure I'll remember the actual plot and storyline but how it gets done I'll forget or only remember vaguely. That way I can re-watch my limited collection a lot.

Personally, not just with anime, I only purchase a series or a movie if I know I am going to watch it multiple times. So, yeah, I watch my anime more than just once, actually, more than just a few times. To me, its only worth buying if I'm going to be enjoying it on multiple views; if I can only watch it once, then I'll rent it and that is it.
Another thing (again, a personal note, though I don't doubt others do the same) I am actually planning on getting involved and making a career with the anime industry here in the US (I'm aiming for ADV and/or Funimation) so I also spend my time studying and analyzing series which requires multiple views. And I am a writer, and since anime tends to have long and intricate storylines, I take a lot of inspiration from them as well. Not to mention that anime has greatly influenced my personal artistic-style.
To comment on the "catching things that you didn't get before" thing, 2 series stick out in my mind: Noir and Madlax. In Noir, finding out that Kirika was the murderer of Mierielle's parents was shocking enough, yet I did not know how I felt about that choice. You see, I started to suspect that it was Chloe who killed them, and finding out it was Kirika completely through me in a loop! However, upon rewatching the series after knowing this fact, I began to see how it all fit into place and how it all added up. Same thing with Madlax: finding out out that Madlax, Margaret, and Laeticia were all peices of the same person at first confused the hell out of me. But then when I went back and rewatched, I noticed and understood how it all added up and made sense. The whole "OH! NOW I get it!" thing is always great. a few episodes of Kiddy Grade also come to mind right now as well after the bad-ass episode where Eclair and Lumiere raid the GOTT headquarters, I became greatly confused about what the hell was going on, but upon the rewatch, I yet again completely saw and understood how it all made sense.

It all depends on the series. Some series I never get tired of, I have been watching and rewatching episodes of Ranma for about 10 years, so if I like a series I can watch it several times without getting tired of it. Lately it has been FMP? Fumoffu, every time I get through with a dvd I'll go to put it away and Bonta-kun calls out to me from the cabinet.
Then there are series which I just never enjoyed so I doubt I'll watch again. For instance the only way I'd ever watch a single episode of Dragon Ball GT again is if I were paid to do so, and sadly I still haven't found anywhere that'd be willing to pay me to watch anime.

I have some unusual circumstances, in that I often have to watch episodes of a particular DVD more than once to adequately review them. Even considering that, though, there's still probably about 20% of the hundreds of anime DVDs I own that I've only watched through once and more than half the rest probably only twice. The number of titles I rewatch on a semi-regular basis is pretty small because of all the new stuff that keeps coming out.

I often re-watch all of my favorite anime because I'm very obssesed with it and it's just fun to re-watch them when you're bored, especially when it's an anime you really enjoy. And sometimes you can notice things you didn't notice before about a series when you go back and re-watch them, like each time I re-watch FMA, I'm still catching lots of little things I never noticed before in the earlier episodes. It's strange though that I often find myself re-watching the "flawed" anime more often than the perfect "masterpieces." For example, Escaflowne is often considered a classic masterpiece, but I've only re-watched it about two or three times but I've lost count as to how many times I've re-watched my Sailor Moon DVDs and Inuyasha even though both of those anime have lots of flaws to them. And while Spirited Away is one of Miyazaki-san's greatest materpieces, it's another movie I've only re-watched a few times yet I've re-watched Howl's Moving Castle so many times and I never get tired of it despite the negative reviews it recieves. I also find that out of all the DVDs in my DVD collection, I re-watch anime and American cartoons the most. Even if I find a live-action movie I really love, I'll only re-watch it two or three times yet I can re-watch any of my favorite American cartoons and anime so many times and never get tired of them. There's just something about animation that makes it more fun to re-watch than live-action.

I rewatch my anime over and over again as well. But the way I do it is that I'll watch everything that I have (A - Z) with the Japanese sub and then I'll go back and watch everything all over again with the English dub. It takes a while, especially when I add in new DVDs of series I already am involved with or a new series that caught my eye.
I have to admit that with the English dub, I'll do other things while watching...like read a book. But that's with anime I've had for a long time such as Sailor Moon, Fushigi Yugi, or Inu Yasha.
I guess I don't really understand the point of spending so much on a series and only watch it once and then let it sit on a shelf gathering dust. Admittedly, mistakes can be made (E's Otherwise ) but why spend so much and only watch it once? If you're going to do that, why not rent?

Series? I'll watch them only once, regardless wether I loved them or not. Movies and really short OVAs, on the other hand, more often, but only if the occasion arises (meeting with friends, public anime showing, etc).
There are just too many excellent (i.e. with a rating of ~9+) unseen anime in the form of fansubs and dvdrips out there to waste my precious life time on rewatching something I have already seen.
Life is short, and you youngbloods will eventually learn to appreciate the resource called time, too.

I have some series(on dvd) that I have only watched once. I usually plan to watch them again like around the winter time or when I have nothing new. Sometimes I pull out an anime's first season and watch it again because I'm starting the 2nd season and want to know something I may not have paid attention too. On the other hand I have watched series like Love Hina, GTO, City Hunter, and a few others numerous times.

At the moment, I'm mostly just watching everything once, while I whittle down that 40-disc backlog I have.
When I'm not playing catchup tho', I'll start re-watching things.

That's about where I stand. Currently, a lot of my shows aren't getting rewatched because I went on a buying spree this past spring. However, once I get caught up, I plan on rewatching most series. Given that I usually rent first, I don't buy unless I plan on rewatching a series.

So far everything I've gotten so far I've only watched once besides my hentais. The ones I've watched once have been in the Japanese dub, but I plan on watching them later in the English dub.
