I'm trying to plan manga purchases for my library and can't seem to discover whether or not Backstage Prince will ever have more than 2 volumes. Does anyone know? Is it still being published as a serial in Japan or is 2 volumes all there will ever be?

Thanks for any help you can offer! Very Happy

First, it might have helped if you had tried to look at the encyclopedia entry. I went ahead and looked up the Shogakukan English page to see what they had, but they don't have jack-squat on their side, which doesn't make it look too promising. Having never read it myself I don't know much of the details about whether it's going to continue or not, but according to the new releases page, the author is releasing the fourth volume of her series, Black Bird. This information was found for through into March, so getting a third volume for the series looks very slim. That's all I can say.

I had thought that the series was over after 2 volumes, but the info I found from a quick internet search doesn't really confirm this.

I would be inclined to say that 2 volumes is indeed the end though, because I can't see Viz serializing it in Shojo Beat otherwise.

Actually, I did look at the encyclopedia first. However, I couldn't find anything to tell me whether or not volume 2 was the last volume, and since it was published fairly recently I didn't want to assume that there were only two volumes total. My hope was that someone might have knowledge about the series, manga-ka, etc. that wasn't in the encyclopedia, which could help answer my question. Anyway, I agree with you that if the author has started another series, that's probably all there is of this one, so for now, I guess I'll treat it that way when I fill out my order requests.

Thank you both for your help! Smile

Actually the encyclopedia entry does say:

Number of tankoubon: 2

But there is anouther site I like to check for some uncertain things. Site is myanimelist.net , they have info on anime/manga not just North American licensed series.

Link to your series is <HERE> though.

We know that there are only 2 volumes released so far. The question about whether the series was over or not however is not obvious from the encylopedia entry, especially given that the last Japanese tankoubon was released not too long ago.

Given the time frame of how long it seems to take to release a volume, it would be around this time. However, the author is instead releasing a volume from one of her other series. So I would label this series as either on hiatus indefinetly or may never be finished.

Well, in searching for another manga-related question today, I think I found my answer. According to Anime on DVD, there is a Backstage Prince and a Backstage Prince 2 - both of them one-shots. And it appears that they're both completed in Japan.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond! Very Happy Now, I'm off to post another question that I need some help with. Wink
