After watching 161 eps of ranma 1/2, I started to wonder what the longest running anime series was.
I know Dragon Ball Z, Ranma, and Sailor Moon are all long, but what is the longest running overall? |

Good Lord . Are these plot-based or just a random scenario each episode? |

They are episodic in nature. Mostly made up of (or are) 5-10 minute long stories.

Usually those long running ones don't have plots, unless they put out a movie. Which I know that Crayon Shinchan, Kochikame and Doraemon have. |

You heard wrong. But now you know.
She's a company character not an anime character. |

Hmm doesn't Dragonball Z also have 296 episodes? Just wondering.
Umm most of the Gundam series are divided into different timelines. With that said very few can be linked together. None have connections to other series outside of their own timeline. So even if you add the total episodes within one timeline it still wouldn't even be near the total episode counts that were given by Samurai CDZ or did you just ignore that post completely? This is a question you could answer for yourself.
Even with all incarnations I only get ~612 episodes, which puts it ~8 in the proper list. But then, as IchigoK90 pointed out, they aren't all connected to each other so that wouldn't be right. |

Nope, it's the toys, the cloths, the toothbrushes (I've got one!), and the other merchandise that has a large fanbase. Very few people who own Hello Kitty stuff have actually the anime. |

... I'm convinced this has to be a joke... if it's not, it's a crime against humanity that a show like that can go on for 2000+ episodes while others that are much better are cut or ended prematurely.

The joke's on you, friend.
It's just like how The Simpsons can run for 15 years straight even after falling off the "Cool List"- it appeals to a bigger audience than mere animation fans. |
