In French areas where YTV is not available, to be precise.

As many of you may know, there have been a lot of restrictions preventing anime from airing on Quebec youth broadcaster Vrak TV for the past several years. Specifically, the station is still designated as a 2-11 only channel, ceases broadcast at 10pm, and is prohibited from airing any commercials. They have made numerous attempts to expand their line-up to offer programming for a 12-17 audience, but unfortunately these attempts have been intervened by other Quebec stations fearing potential competition, even though the programming Vrak would offer would inevitably be substantially different.

Well, it seems another opportunity has finally arisen. Vrak TV (along with YTV) is currently applying for a license renewal with the CRTC. This time around, they’re seeking to change their target audience to youth up to 17 years of age, eliminate advertising restrictions, and rearrange their wholesale rates in accordance to those changes.

Not only that, but according to the PDF documents (which I don’t recommend wading through unless you really want to get specific on this issue), Vrak TV also wishes to establish an animation block from 9-10pm. With that in mind, it’s very important that you, as citizens, offer your own comments and interventions on the issue. By accessing the Broadcast Interventions/Comments form you can leave your own input on the subject. (Make sure “Astral Broadcasting Group” is selected.)

If you do decide to do this, I suggest making your comment as neat and professional as possible. If there is public demand on the issue pointing out that Vrak TV would offer specialty programming which would otherwise never be available on any other service, it can potentially outweigh interventions from other broadcasters and help Vrak TV undergo the changes it so sorely needs. This may be your only chance in a long while to open up the possibility for anime on French language television, so I strongly advise all of you affected by this to offer your input as soon as possible!
